lights on steering wheel flashes on and off when you turn right or left

If you mean the CC lights you might have a wire shorting out under the horn/airbag module. Do a search and you'll find lotsa info on pulling the module so you can trace the wires coming out of the CC circuit boards. WARNING: be sure to follow instructions for module removal carefully so you don't accidentally deploy the airbag and severely injure or kill yourself, no s**t!

Sounds like an issue with the clock spring. Its the piece that bascially allows you to turn you wheel and have the switches work. As far as your air bag disconnect the air bag then disconnect the wire going to the air bag and remove the air bag. There are only 2 bolts holding it on and you have to remove it anyway to get at everything else.

Caution

CAUTION!

Be careful removing the horn/airbag module from the steering wheel! Don't even think of touching it until you have pulled the NEG battery cable and waited about 5 minutes for the failsafe system to purge. If you remove the two bolts holding the module in place before disconnecting power, you seriously run the risk of causing the bag to deploy. There's enough force there to break your neck if you're in the wrong position. As a matter of fact, you should always remove the NEG cable before doing any work on any vehicle. Ever hear of someone getting in and starting the vehicle while some poor dude was working underneath? S**t happens!
