alright everyone, you know what this is about, mine goes "putt putt putt putt" loudly at all the stoplights, the wheels whine between 15-25 mph, the steering moans and groans when i turn it all the way, and the front end makes chunking noises when i floor it. HOWEVER, when its feeling like it, the engine roars, the tires squeal, and the resonators rumble!!

My 94 goes clickty click as i accelerate!:)

Mine makes a tapping noise till it warms up, a clunk when it turns corners, the ski-rack whistles at high speed and a bad ground on the amplifier which causes it to hum in different pitch according to the rpms!!!Bring it on?

mine rattles the hatch door when my subs are goin....

Well, we have the rattle rattle of the door panels from many years of hard driving, we have the tweet tweet of the drive shaft or something when going 0-30 (dust seal is the problem, but nothing bad will happen if I don't pay the $$ to get it fixed, so I am content). We have the rattle of the electric brake unit since I removed the bottom dash panel and cannot get it 100% tight due to those stupid metal rivets, we have the noise of all the odds and ends in the center console, we have the speaker rattle when the bass and volume is too high... I think that's it. But, who cares, I love my car. All those rattles, and scratches I *cannot* hide totally, and any dings ADD CHARACTER! :)

I'm not sure about all of them but the one that's killing me is the thump thump when I go over a bump from the radius arms.

My dashboard goes "squeeky squeek" on almost every bump except on Tuesdays. If it is below 20 degrees, the windshield makes snapping noises. Thanks Ford....

When accelerating my flowmaster goes vroom, vroom.
When the subs are beating it goes thump thump and rattle rattle.
The driver door rattles over potholes.
The engine taps until its warm, then its fine.
I'm sure I'll think of more sounds.

Well, I've got the clickity click, the tickity tick when it cold, the thump from the radius arms, the rattle from the subs, the whining of the tires, and right now I have a vibration of my exhaust rubbing against the cross member, and I almost forgot ,the whining of my girlfriend because WE have to take it instead of her civic!!!

i used to have that girlfriend problem, got rid of the girlfriend.

My sounds, Some Good, Some Not So Good

I have a horrible CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK when I start up. Its the exhaust hitting the tranny cross member, the holder rusted away, and I use all of my money towards gas that makes it go BOOM BOOM because I am still undecided as to what exhaust is going to replace my rusted out no good Midas excuse for a lifetime warranty on a muffler (I hate that place). Also, a SQWEAKY SQWEAKY from the left rear when on the trail, very annoying. And also the normal rattling of my door panels when my speakers are cranked up too high, its how I know when to turn it down.

Well I have a clunk when I put it in reverse due to worn driveline. I also have a click-clunk when I go over bumps due to my sway bar disconnects. I also have a hum when I press the brake occasionaly due to a bad ABS valve. The plastic pannel under the steering column makes a rattle. The door locks also make a rattle. When it is windy outside the door handles make a noise too because they are loose. Now that I leave my roof rack on all the time, I have alot of bang and clangs coming from the accessory mounting brackets. And the one I HATE the most is the shift pattern cap on the manual shifter that vibrates making a horrible noise and turns circles by itself.

Well lets see, I love the sound of my "fry basket" drilled airbox. Makes it sound like a V-8 even though 3 cylinder Geo's have no problem blowin' my doors off. That lovely sound the ABS makes when you hit a little pebble and set it off for no reason. Or the sound of whooshing air from somewhere, like a sound from a cheap horror movie. Is it the bug shield, window guarg things or what? And my personal favorite is the sound of freshly treated leather as it rubs the center console and sounds like a juicy fart.
Fortunately I have eliminated all the others, for now that is.

Sounds...

Well I tought that mine was awfull, I tink all those sounds are just part of the conception of the truck. Mine makes clak clak or clunk clunk when it is cold outside(maybe the tensioner going bad. When on rought road there is a sqweak/rattle comming from the driver's door(intermittent). There is sometime a big(not so big) clunk from the rear drive shaft when engaging first gear from stop. At hightway speed there is the center console that shakes and rattle, and the passenger seat too(unless a passenger is on it). But ther is some good sound's, like the huummm when I engage 4x4 and the profound vroum from the K&N. Keep posting those sounds, maybe some mechanic can diagnostic our problems with that (ha ha ha!!!).

wow, where to begin! It's been a while since I've driven the Explorer so I don't recall ALL the noises...
When I hit a bump in the road I hear a clunking, I think it's my radius arms
Going into reverse or shifting out of reverse, I hear a clunking, I'm told it could be u-joints, I don't know.
My A/C compressor (which I think is getting on its last limbs) whenever engaged (defrost or a/c) clunks loudly enough I can hear it in the cab
My altenator makes a whining noise (probably screaming out for help!)
My spare tire mount is constantly squeaking back and forth
I can't shut my tailgate completely so that's always making noise (plus that amplifies the sound of the spare tire mount)
My springs are bent, and are constntly thudding and making noises
Whenever I get over 60 it vibrates, making noises, if I can ever get going that fast! (like the old VW commercial... "0-60... you bet!"
Some sort of noise coming from my winch mount... I think it needs to be tightened down but they make that quite difficult to do (thanks Warn!)
My two lights on my light bar that are pointed sideways slightly rub against the roof rack, squeaking (this is mainly evident when its cold)
One of my bushwacker flares had the rubber stuff come off it and attempts to re-seal it with black caulk haven't worked, so that squeaks
My bearings always seem to be making noise...
All the pieces of paneling don't fit perfectly together (probably my fault) so on the passenger side they rub together and make noise
Everything that's in my storage box in the back like to clunk together no matter what the speed, so they make noises...
The engine makes an awful lot of noise for such a non-powerful vehicle!
Since the ARB compressor air line has a leak in it that I can't find (thanks ARB for making hte entire locker dependant on one very thin air line that runs close to many sharp and hot objects), whenever the locker is engaged the locker goes on for about 20 seconds, stops for about 10 seconds, goes on for about 20 seconds, stops for about 10 seconds, and on and on.
OH YES, and my speedomoeter that makes an annoying grinding noise (used to be only when going over 50, now its pretty much all the time). The speedometer also fluctuates by about 10mph in either direction.

Hmm... I guess that's it :).

Matt you forgot about your spedo making that annoying sound that it makes when you get over a certain speed!

Mine makes a loud clunk when I go from reverse to forward due to the radius arm not being tight because of the cross threaded bolt. :) The rear latch handle clicks as I turn it around in a circle. Other then that not to many... that I can think of at the moment.

O.K. im going to revise after listening to yours. The best one ive heard is the little cap on the shifter(5SPEED) buzzing. Thats the one that drove me up a wall!!! second i'd have to say is the girlfriend cause' mine just bought an Acura 3.0 CL. So just imagine the whinig from that. Considering that i'm not a controlling boyfriend I just hafta drive my explorer everywhere. And I have a new one all the C.D.'s in my case rattle like some kindof instrument in a latin band when my truck goes over 60mph, cause my wheels are out of balance.

more to come....

Hey, <<MONOCHROMOUS>> theses are great!

More updates, the stuff in the back rolls around and slams into the sides, thats kind of a THUNK i guess. then there is that dumb hook on the rubber strap that RATTLES very loud anytime i go over 20 mph. The CLUNK of something?? wheni back out of the driveway with my wheels turned all the way. the RATTLE of my factory speakers when the bass gets too high (im putting pioneers in xmas) the shout of my dad telling me to slow down in the neighborhood because all the neighbors hear me, even though im only going 15 mph in the first place, must be the resonators. and the MIMIC of my brother when i decide that 110 mph is too fast to race a honda on the highway. i still beat him though :). The BEEP of my radar detector and the immediate HISS of the brake pedal when im racing the honda. sweet, keep posting guys

I have a 94 xlt.

whining when sterring is turned all the way. (plenty of power steering fluid)

I used to have whining sound in front of the motor but replaced that problem by replacing the serpentine belt.

doors need a little wd40 kind of a creeking sound when i open the driver side door

catyltic converter guard rattle underneath the truck
i wire tied the pieces together but still get that occasional rattle.

loud exhaust...well thats because i put a performance exhaust on it. Sounds just like a MUSTANG music to my ears.
