Hey to all,
I have a few tech questions on my 97 2wd Exploder. 1. I bought some 1/2 inch wheel spacers to compensate for my whimpy wheels and tires but the studs on the stock rotors are too short. I came across some LONG REACH lugs, would this solve my problem or do I need to change out all the studs? 2. I have a pinging problem going up hills on the freeway, any tips on what to do for this? 3. My front suspension is chrunchy/squeeky and I've tried greasing all I can see but it seems to persist, any ideas?
Many thanks and happy Fording to all.
Mike

1. I'm not really to sure if the studs on the spacers are too short or the studs on the Explorer are too short, but I don't think that "long reach lugs" will solve the problem in either case. I'm not really a fan of spacers, so maybe someone else will have a better answer for you.

2. Seafoam

3. Balljoints? I would have it checked out by a shop unless you have some experience with front end work.

Also you will get a lot more responses if you title the thread of what your problem is, instead of "Little Help Here..."

DOGFRIEND- Thanks for the tip on the ball joints, I'll get that checked out!

CHEW 12- Sorry dude, didn't know there was a protocol on asking questions in here.....will try to do better on the next one......................not.

I was just letting you know cause i saw your new, I wasnt trying to be an ASS. so STFU! :fire: Last time I will ever even try to help you

I didn’t realize your condescending remark was an attempt to help…as you can see by my post I had 3 issues. Would you suggest that I post 3 threads with 3 titles or write out 3 questions in the header or simply ask for some help?

"Topic
Please make the topic of your post as descriptive as possible. Don't just say "hey help me out guys". Giving a descriptive topic helps those in the know better able to help you, by not having to read every post, plus your particular topic could be the same as someone else's and you could just add your question or statement to that thread. Saves on bandwidth and having to answer the same question over again on some other post."

Ummm Yea...read those BEFORE posting

Just wanted to post the solutions I found to my originally posted questions…..
1. You have to change out the stock studs on the rotors to fit any SPACER above 5/16. The reason spacer is in CAPS is because I’m not talking about WHEEL ADAPTORS, which mount in place of you wheel and then the wheel mounts to the adaptor, no need to change the studs.
2. As for the pinging I found a great tip here http://www.explorer4x4.com/tips.htm and it seems to have helped a lot.
3. I’m yet to get the ball joints checked, but it seems like a reasonable solution.
So there you have it, should anyone else find themselves asking the same questions.

As for Chew 12, thank you from the bottom of my heart…you’ve been an enormous help. I don’t know what I would have done in this place if it weren’t for you expertise and guidance. Thanks again, have a wonderful day and don’t let your mouth get in the way of that wonderful personality.

Feel the love.
