Just got a 2004 explorer xlt...anybody have a clue where I can find the factory number to use my door key pad. My truck did not come with a user manual and ford wants $65 to tell my the number. I have done a million searches, but have come up with nothing.
Thanks,
Matt

Mine, in my 97 is in the back of the car, on the inside of the driverside rear, there is a panel that flips out is for the rear washer fluid. Looking at the compartment (open) look inside to the right, and there should be a flat box that has electrical conections in it. The number to set your keypad is on that box (mine is on a white sticker that has a barcode on it), it is a 5-digit number i think it is hard to see, but with a flashlight and pulling on the plastic I could barely make my number out. U simply put that number in and then put your five digit number in after it to set it. That key-pad can also set wether your doors lock automatically after 15 mph, and other things to. Let me know if that was too confusing. Can take pics if you need them

On the 02-04 the number can be found on the passenger side C pillar behind the 2nd row seats. You will need to remove the trim panels to access the code.

yeah i thought, it might be dif.

I removed the passenger c piliar and found a black box. It had "tire pressure monitor system" written on it. I didn't think that was it...so i am still looking.

I have not yet found a post on this forum with instructions to find the location for the code for an '04 .

Try Fords website--I downloaded a few pdf manuals & found the info there.

On my '97 XLT- nine hit 5times opened it as a default as it never was progammed by original owner.
