OK, so I have a 1996 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edtion, V8, AWD. Yes it is a 4 door... Any more info needed I can add more.. Also has Electric locks, with Remote.

OK So I drive all my friends around, ALOT, and I am really getting annoyed that I have to let them out the back. It seems that the child locks are stuck on somehow. I can let them out from the outside, but I cannot do anything from in Inside. I took the door panel off, to find nothing broken, but it does seem that the bar from the inside to the lock mech is binding up somehow. I have read a few threads talking about some plastic clips??? but I have no idea what I am looking for.

Any help would be good help at this point, I plan on going on a trip to the mall on Friday, so I would like to get it solved before tomorrow.

Once again, Thanks for any insite to my problem, Harold

If the rod between the inside handle and the latch mechanism is still attached at the inside door handle end, then your problem is with the attachment to the latch mechanism. Unfortunately, there is a small nylon piece that works with the child locks that breaks. Replacing it is a real PITA, because you have to pull the latch mechanism out - and to do that you have to unhook ALL the rods that attach to the latch. This means unmounting the lock solinoid, among other things, with very limited room/access to work. I have the same issue on my drivers side rear door - I just live with it.

You can always duct tape one ond of a string to the outside handle and run the other end inside over the window!!:banghead:
Or make your friend riding shotgun responsible for opening the rear doors! ;)

Sorry - maybe someone else will have better news and we can both learn. :D

That nylon peice was still good until I started working the rod back and forth, and then the whole bar just popped out from the lock mech... oh well, looks like I get to swear at my truck once spring gets here.
