Do any of you have LoJack or some such system in your truck?

I am curious how it works, what kind of hardware is involved, what it costs.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks....

I've looked into getting this for my F-150 but I'm unsure of the costs. Basically it is a small satellite transmitter that is mounted in the vehicle somewhere, that can be tracked upon a call to the police.
The only thing I don't like is the fact that its kind of big-brothery. They can track your vehicle at any time for any reason, not just because your vehicle is stolen.

i knew someone about 10 years ago that had lojack on his car and it was stolen. the cops found it and arrested the car thief in less than a half hour. i'm not sure about the price, but it does seem to be the best chance you will have at recovering your vehicle.

My parents have LoJack on two of their cars. It was installed by the dealer both times and I believe was around $300 (but I don't remember the exact amount). They did get a break on their insurance for it.

peace

Mike

Before you spend money for LoJack ask your local law enforcement if they know how to use it. I was going to get this when I bought my Explorer, but my friend's dad is high in the rankings of the Chicago Police Department and he said that almost noboby knows how to use it or even wants to use it. So in my case it would have been a waste. Hopefully your local law enforcement cares a little more.

My friend got it installed in his Xterra. The dealer installed it and wont tell him where. They said they install it in different places all the time as a security precaution. He got an insurance break as well. He also said taht lojac has some sort of guarantee that your vehicle will be recovered or you get some amount of money. I think i will get it on my truck eventually.

That statement is false. Its activated only when the car is entered into NCIC/FCIC. Its not "on" all the time.

So they cant just turn it on and track your car for the hell of it? I think i would feel really uneasy knowing that someone could be tracking my everymove

No the police cannot "just turn it on" Besides if they could why would they want to. Im sure they could care less what your doing. That is unless you give them a reason to! Grins.

I have it on the Lexus Al, they installed it at the dealer upon delivery, $500. Got an insurance break as well. I too have a friend that got their car back within a matter of hours undamaged.

I'd get it.

Matt, I seriously doubt there is any thing "big brotherly" about the system.

Stephen, is there any monthly fee or any other fees invilved?

Thanks....

My dad's Jaguar came with it, dealer installed. It costs $300. The dealer's pitch is that LoJack is such a good security measure that they wouldn't let someone buy one of their cars without it. But according to some inside sources, there is a majorly messed up zoning law in Atlanta that says that you can't put a fence around a parking lot, so all their Jaguars kept getting stolen off their lot in the middle of the night (between 3 and 5 a month), so they just put LoJack on every delivery they get. They said that after they installed LoJack, the longest vehicle recovery time they've ever had was 3 hours. Sounds like a good enough testimony to me. And no, there are no monthly fees, that I know of. I think it's just there for when you need it.

the guy in financing at my ford dealership convinved me to get lojack as i was working out the final details of my loan stuff when i bought my x. first he asked for $700, and i said, no, but took it at $600. i know, i know, i got raped. if you go to the lojack site, their retail price is $600.

anyway, it's just a little transmitter box, probably about 3'x4" in size. you need to take it to a authorized lojack site every 4 years or so to have the system checked out and for the backup batter to be replaced. i think that procedure costs $30.

It sounds great, I think I'll check into it for my Audi.

we lie to our customers too! :)
heck no, our software doesn't have any bugs in it! LOL

Haha Matt

Aldive, of course they can say that, but how can you know if it's on and someone IS tracking you? Ya never know. Does not, can not...very different terms in that case. It would kinda freak me out too. Course, I'm sure they don't keep it on all the time, but they could.

I'd get it anyway. If they kept it on all the time and tracked me, they'd get pretty bored.

Matt, if brother wants to track you, they have their ways without resorting to a private firm. <G>
