2007 Exploder
Hey all, I own a 2004 4.0 Explorer with 255K on the clock. I just put a new transmission in it in January, and then the cats clogged up right after that. I happened across a 2007 with only 112K on around the same time and picked it up right away. It has leather, third row, rear HVAC and a few other options that the old '04 just never did.

Long story short, the 2007 now has 117k on the clock and just popped a P0741. I've tried clearing it, and it came right back. Now, I know the transmission is in the same family, but I believe they have different part numbers. Any of you experts know if the trans in the '04 will swap in to the '07? Trying to research options before I start dropping trannies again.

Cheers, any help appreciated

Welcome to this forum! Your profile says that you have a 2006. I guess it should say 2007? The code might represent an issue with the valve body, gasket, solenoid block or the internal wiring harness. Did you check the external wiring harness for damage such as melted insulation from the exhaust pipe?

Sorry for the delayed reply, have been buried in another car project and am just now diverting my attention back to the baby hauler. External harness looks good, no visual damage anywhere. The wife has put probably 1,000 miles on it since the code first started to appear. We don't really have any other option, as my sedan was broken (Subaru Legacy GT) and 3 kids will not fit in my small coupe (SC300).
Anyway, the '07 is starting to lose power and you can feel the clutches slipping. I don't want to even attempt to fix this trans if the trans from an '04 will bolt / wire in just fine. The trans in the '04 has literally 128 miles on it total, and I recently spent $2700 paying somebody else to swap it, because i don't currently have a shop.
Any advice is appreciated. I was starting to get over my Chevy bias until I lost two transmissions in less than a year...
