- 2013 Explorer XLT 3.5 NA
Not really a new member joined back in 08 when my wife and I purchased our first Explorer Eddide Bauer 4.6l. I mainly joined to incase I needed to fix any issues with the truck. The 06 has been mostly problem free for 190000 miles other than wheel bearings, brakes, maintenance and a blown coolant hose for the front and rear heater core. A year after that hose blew and a pretty bad overheat because of it starting getting misfires on cly 5 and 6(found them while scanning the mode 6 data) then started pushing coolant out of the overflow under hard acceleration. She's being fixed but slowly. In the mean time we went out and picked up a new to us 2013 XLT 3.5 4wd pretty well equipped with 48,000. Drove it around took it to my friends shop threw it up on the lift bone dry looked like it never left the show room. Couple days after having it, I noticed a few small drips on my driveway and in the garage crawl underneath and bam black sticky oil on the drive side rear. With the help of this site and a couple of random edge ones I was pretty much able to determine its the lovely under engineered PTU. Would Putting a DRAIN PLUG on the unit have killed you FORD???
Well now since I have that off my chest. I really do enjoying reading the wealth of information on here about the various years of explorers. I myself worked as a parts guy for a mom and pop auto parts store, Motor Vehicle Inspector for the state of NJ, Owned a used car lot for a few years(way too much work and aggravation), and service manager for a chain repair shop in Jersey. I ran a clean and tight ship my guys knew to fix it right the first time or they would be fixing it free the next time. Unfortunately the entire chain went bankrupt(should have never happened). Now the wife and I own two grooming salons her in Jersey one in Clark and one in Flemington. I couldn't be happier since we both love animals and our son has a great time with all the different dogs he gets to see and play with. A bonus to this venture is now I actually don't dread working on my own cars and it has become a fulling hobby again.
Probably won't see many post from myself since I really use the search feature and google 99% of the time, but for that 1% I just might post a question since my brain probably melted trying to figure out a solution.
