As the title says, I've been coming here for advise, so I figured it was time to come out of the dark, and into the light. I'm recently divorced, so I've been doing a lot of hiking, camping, fishing, and anything else outdoors. I've seen quite a few videos where folks have converted their Explorer to a Explorer/camper. Has anyone done this conversion, and if so I would love to hear some of y'alls ideas. Plus, what are some of the SNAFUs I need to be aware of, before I start my conversion. Another question is, what can I do to improve my MPG? Since I spend most of my days on back desert, and mountain roads, I'm getting 12-14 MPG. That's killer on my wallet, especially since I'm a 100% disabled Veteran, because I have a fixed budget. Thanks for taking y'alls time to read this.

Unfortunately there are not any miracle mileage gains to be had. Ensuring that the engine is properly tuned will help you get the best MPG. Low rolling resistance tires can help bring up MPG, but they are not going to serve you well offroad.

Not the same generation Explorer, but it may help.

Welcome.
