looking at 01 sport with 127k

I'm with Monmix. I looked at a 2000 that looked like it had been ran through it paces, and I did a carfax on it. It came back totally clean. One owner, until the lot bought it. I talked to the owner of the lot about it and told him about the carfax, and he just laughed and said "that junk system? don't believe anything you read on there" He asked what it had reported, and I said nothing really, and he showed me the paperwork on it. He had bought it from a local Ford dealer, and it was an off lease vehicle.

I see no differene wheter it is highway or non-highway mileage. There is still the same amount of where on the TC rear end, bearings. The motor and tranny may not have spun as much, but thats still a crap load of mileage for that year. Who knows the maintanance on it. Or even if there has any. I would rather have an older vehicle with normal mileage than a newer vehicle with a crap load. And yes I am "dicriminating" against a high mileage vehicle.

From what he's said is going on with it, I'm sure he's only seen the tip of the iceberg.


well i agree with you that due to the other problems that are obvious with the truck...who knows what else.

i do disagree when it comes to mileage only becasue of previous experiences.
like i said before, my last truck had 300k. i also said i changed the oil everk 2k which equates to 150 times i changed the oil. yeah it seems like a lot and its hard for me to believe sometimes but the math doesnt lie. And i know it WAS changed every 2k religiously. but w/e...its just my experience

as far as wear and tear...yes there is still wear and tear. all im saying is an hour of driving 25 miles in traffic and through towns constantly stopping isnt too great for any of the driveline components. now driving 65-70 mph at 2k rpms for two hours at a consistent pace does do wear but not as much mile for mile....however since your doing more miles, it probably balances out with the traffic stop and go miles.
all im trying to say is that there is more to wear and tear then just mileage in general. its the type of miles. Not to mention, most people i know who do less miles and just drive around town or commute change their oil less. And that kind of driving breaks down the oil even more.

ah, it just hit me...perfect example. Just think about the kind of driving a taxi does in 5k miles of driving, regardless of how long it takes them to do it. There is no way that taxi has the same amount of wear as a mostly highway vehicle with 5k has....just no way.

i guess the perfect situation would be low miles that were mostly highway.
not trying to start an argument...just speaking from personal observations.

I wouldn't touch it for anything. There is no way that someone could tell me that they changed the oil in that vehicle every 3k miles. Put the paper and pencil to it. 127K divided by 3k = 90 oil changes due. OK so 90 oil changes were due in 3 years times 12 months a year = 36

Save your money, pass on this one.
Not that I don't think the miles are a bit excesive, your math is a bit flawed. 90 oil changes would be for a truck with 270k. 130k would only require about 40. ;)
