Hey guys

I'm looking at a 99 Explorer XLT 2wd with the almighty 5.0 in it...It's got 120,000 miles but is extremely clean and has documented maintenece. I wasnt able to drive it tonight, but I did start it briefly...I'm going back on saturday.

I noticed that the RPM's were steady at 200! No fluctuation or anything, just a steady very low idle. I know the idle should be around 600-800...so naturally i'd like to figure out what might be causing this. He said that it had been sitting for a while, holpefully it just needs to be driven a bit

This isnt a major problem is it? I'm thinking a bad IAC or MAF...But I'd like to figure it out when i take it out for a spin on saturday. Will unplugging the iac while idling help me to determine whats up?

yeah too low of an RPM to even run. Did it sound decent? If it didn't sound horrible then you should get the speedo/tach checked out - and also the mileage! ;)

Definitely a tach issue. It'll stall at 400 or less. If the IAC doesn't go nuts trying to recover the idle speed.... ;)

Hmmm, the engine sounded great so I guess the tach is the culprit here, I'll have to see how it acts on the freeway and stuff

Are there any long term effects from him driving it like this?

Thanks for the response guys

Tac or IAC. Although running at 200rpm is difficult.
