guys,
as you know i've been here for awhile. my dad has recently decided its time for his new vehicle. he's been looking at new explorers or expeditions. he will be getting rid of his leased yukon in august. we do tow a 3500 lb boat every now and again in the summers. the yukon was awesome but he is looking to just change at the end of his lease. i'm curious as to what you guys would recommend for both the explorer and expedition. i havent been in an explorer other than mine so i have no idea what new transmissions and motors are out. i know some of the old ones (mine) at least tranny wise were awful. gimme some reccommendations and anything to watch out for. thanks, we'll be adding another ford to the garage real soon here.

Both the Expedition and Explorer now have IFS and IRS, which gives a better ride and more stable handling but is not a favorite of the off-roading crowd. It remains to be seen how well IRS holds up compared to the old solid axles, since Ford's only used them since the '02 Explorer and '03 Expedition. Either vehicle will tow a 3,500 trailer easy. The Explorer comes with the 4.0 SOHC V6 (210 hp) or the 4.6 liter V8 (240 hp). Expedition comes with 4.6 V8 (220 hp, i think) or the 5.4 V8 (260 hp.) Both seat 7 people, though obviously the Expedition has more space for them. I would say the question you have to ask yourself is how much do I want to spend and how much room do I need? Explorer's run from the high 20's all the way to a little past 40 grand. Expeditions are low-mid 30's up to about 50 grand. Good luck..
