2004 Explorer NBX 4.6 4x4
I'm looking for anyone who may be able to help me find a 2004 NBX 4.6L in extremely nice condition. I have one already and I'm in love with it... but it has seen the salt roads of the north. The rust gives me nightmares. It haunts me deeply. So I'm looking to sell my NBX, for a nicer, rust free specimen. I have 4 different gen 3 explorers and sold my first, a gen 1, years ago, all 5 of them in the 4x4 variety, of course. I am looking to sell all 4 of mine, in hopes of ending up with a nice 2004 NBX and a 2010 EB.

Hard to tell with all the junk in it but it's in fantastic condition inside and out except for a little bit of rust near the door seals of the back doors. And some paint flake on the front of hood. I'm just a perfectionist and i hate rust. Even if you can't see it. I guess i could settle for cutting it out and tig weld.

I'm probably just going to have to settle with mine. I'm already going to get full paint and body anyways. It's just it also has quite a bit more rust in the suspension and other parts underneath, but I guess I'll just start swapping parts from my donor.

oh, its not? ahh man!
Lol yeah I got super excited first time a saw it even though it said v6 I was like well maybe they got it wrong. But then I noticed it didn't have the hooks in front and the interior didn't look right. And then I saw the xlt badge lol.

I knew they were rare before I bought it, but I didn't really start to notice how rare until later. I got it for a steal. $1000 with the title. I saw the nbx badge and had to bite my lip. Only thing wrong was a bad coil pack and this apparent exhaust leak. Speaking of which. How the heck do you post a video on here?

What does an NBX give you that another model of Explorer doesn't?

You just get the nbx interior, skid plates, nerf bars, factory front tow hooks, wheels, a roof rack, 4x4, along with all the goodies of an xlt or limited, depending on options, and someone said that you got a 3.73 gear optional but I'm not sure on that. I also own an xlt and 2 limiteds and I honestly love them all but the nbx takes the cake. I'm thinking about getting a 2010 eb loaded and transferring all the stuff from the nbx over to basically make a 2010 nbx. I've seen all the gen 3 options and just want to take the best of everything and put it into one vehicle.

It's very rare to find the factory roof rack.

Then I must have gotten lucky. I bought mine off the lot in 03, Limited and it came with the roof rack complete with cross rails!
The XLT and up come with cross bars. This is the NBX rack. It's a Yakima LoadWarrior with a factory "Explorer" printed wind fairing.

I thought the NBX rack pulled out the back and became a bike rack?

Wasn't sure about the 3.73 gears but it must be true because I have an explorer with 3.55 gears that I went up in tire size on and it now runs about 65 when the speedo reads 60, and i know for sure it was accurate before i got the bigger tires. But my NBX has 31.5 inch mud tires (obviously not factory size) and the speedo is right on the money, maybe even 1 mph high at 65.

Lol what?
There was an Explorer that had a bike rack that pulled out of the rear of the rack and pivoted down and held the bikes over the hatch.

I’m not entirely crazy. I must have seen one when I was looking at Escapes, and not the third Mounty.
