I in the market for a explorer and have recently found a really good buy on a '97 EB. Problem is there is a bad leak in the radiator but the seller is willing to adjust his asking price because of this. how much should I ask him to come down? and it is a 5.0 AWD 4 door, would you suggest this as a good first project in ford country? I do have some experince with Jeeps.

I would just price out a new radiator from some local retailers to give you an idea of replacement cost. Add in a little for your time to replace it, and make sure he comes down that much.

If it is a REALLY good deal, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The deal itself may make up for the cost of radiator.

The 5.0 AWD is a great platform to work from for an onroad machine. The lack of a low range 4wd isn't very desirable for an real offroading.

Welcome Aboard!!

I found a replacement for $150 but it's plastic like the original. and can't seem to locate a metal aftermarket. could I expect to have this problem in the future with the plastic replacement? or do you know of and aftermarket that I should consider?

Welcome to the site, I four wheel all the time with my original plastic cover & have never had a problem as far as breaking, leaking, etc, knock on wood :hammer: so you would be just fine with a plastic cover ;)
