My father's '97 XLT has the stock stereo which seems to indicate that it has the CD changer controller features. Sooo, he's wondering about getting a CD changer to install. Would this work (assuming he could find a stock CD changer) and where does the unit normally sit? What work is involved - can you just plop it in and connect a wire harness? Also, is there a better way? He is not interested in spending a bunch of money.

Thanks!

The changer fits in the center armrest as long as you have the high series center console.

What if?

What if you don't have that one? My center console isn't even big enough to hold CDs...where else might you put a cd changer...say if you wanted like a 10 or 12 disc changer? I wouldn't want it in plain view or anything...

Under the back seat would be a good place for one. And if you don't have a custom head unit I believe that http://www.crutchfield.com has a harness/adapter for the factory stereo to connect a cd changer.
