I recently have been looking for a supercharger for a big power gain, and my friend had one and was killing my explorer. Well after finding out what he paid i went for the biggest bang for oyur buck. I bought the holley 05115 nitrous kit for 5.0 mustangs, it hooks up the same with very little modification to do, the started with a 75 shot which it came with, even though everyone told me an explorer coulnd take more than 50 or so. With full exhaust and intake ive bumped it up to 100 shot. With the 50 shot i was beating my supercharged Xplorer, because of th elarge torque increase you get and now with the 100 shot its not even a race, mustands have trouble hanging, try it out, cost about 450 bucks

My 4.0 OHV is gonna be on the bottle soon. With all my other mods, maybe I'll dip into the 13s :)

Sweet! Can't wait to see how any X performs after it gets on the bottle

Someone posted a while back that their '98 SOHC 4x4 Sport was running mid 14s with just the bottle.

How often do you have to get the bottle filled? And another thing that i wanted to know is how much is it to fill your tank. if you would would you tell me what pound tank you have and if someone like national welders can fill it? sorry for the questionare but i just wanted to know. Thanks, Major

A 100 shot won't hurt anything. A stock stang can run that so I know the explorer can handle it with the better heads and intake. That thang so haul with that kinda shot. Just make sure you do your ignition right. I would hate to see pics of the motor after it has detonated.

Your exhaust and your intake is what is allowing you to run that much of a shot. A stock system would have much more stress because it could not take in air or expel the exhaust fast enough. Don't get too greedy though cause you could easily pop a head gasket or burn up a piston. Use the bottle sparingly too. Its a lot of fun to hit the button all the time but it definitly takes life off the motor. Have fun taking out those stangs!

Most kits come with a 10# tank. The local performance shop here in Austin charges $3.50/# = $35. With a 55 shot, the bottle lasts around 90 seconds.

I got the rest of my parts (hopefully) yesterday. So if it warms up a bit, I'll start installing!!!

ahh thats not much money at all to get it filled. i may have to start saving and try to get one installed. how bad is it for the engine though for a daily driver?

Actually NOS does not hurt motors. NOS not being setup properly hurts motors. We have torn down motors that have had NOS on them for over 100K and they look just the same as any other motor. But they were setup with MSD 6 ignitions and ignition retards. You have to setup upi the air, fuel, and ignition just right to make the motor last the same time it would without it. My friends that installed NOS went through 2-3 bottles a weekend racing. So it does get expensive over time. Some of them have spent close to 2K a year on it and wish they would have went with a supercharger now. Good luck in any route you take.

Explorer4, how many miles are on ur X? i already have 120,000 on mine, but i still want nitrous, however i have heard so much bad stuff aboiut it. can anyone tell me more??

my friend (major mustang guru) told me I should stay away from nitrious and to get a supercharger because they are easier on the engines/not as much risk as with the nos.

He is definetely right. Superchargers don't lean the motor out as much NOS dopes when sprayed. Less chances of detenation unless you go with a very high psi supercharger. I would stick around 6-9psi to be safe. A freshly built motor done right can handle around 18psi if setup right for the street.

I have lost so much money from mistakes that shouldn't have happened from shops that I would never even consider nos. I am planning on a supercharger when I buy my next car in a year, if you are going to spend alot of money on an engine upgrade like that, get a new engine to get your money's worth.
