2002 Mercury Mountaineer
First off I am new to this forum and these vehicles. I want to thank everyone in advance for any help you can give me.

Here is my issue i am running into. And it may seem easy and simple to you guys but I am new to it. I own a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer and at this moment my rear coil has broke and am going to replace it but thought while im digging into it i might as well replace the entire strut set up and do all four corners.

While thinking this I got the idea to lower the Merc. Not looking to slam it down but do a nice 3-4" drop on all corners. The problem im coming into is finding a lowering kit for my vehicle, ive searched high and low and maybe not looking for the right words or terms. Ive even thought of looking for explorer coils but cant find anything that goes lower then 2". So i apologize if this has been covered before and I have searched. So if anyone can assist me in either finding the proper coils i could use to get lower, or pointing me in the right direction for the research.

Thanks,
Mod

I seem to remember reading Ground Force makes a set of lowering springs for Explorers. Which is essentially the same thing as your mounty. Use the search to find threads about lowering it. I'm sure there are quite a few. Also, I don't think you're going to get 3 to 4 inches of drop. Maybe two max.

I don't know of many places that will give you 4'' of drop, maybe 1.5-2 at best.

That was the answer i was afraid of. I have seen the 1.5" drop coils for the X. Guess thats the only choice, Thanks guys.

An inch and a half is a huge difference in ride height though. I haven't lowered anything but I've noticed a 1.5" lift is a big change. Just a thought.

1.5" in either direction will drastically impact the look of your ride. Trust me. I raised mine. If you dropped it 4", I would worry about the tire rubbing against the top of the wheel well...but that's just me :D

Thanks guys I am picking up the ground force coils. Now as far as struts go, with just a 1.6" drop do i have to worry about getting a shorter travel strut or will stock specs work fine?

I would definitely just keep an eye on it. Some people use them, some don't. If you lower it too much than yes, swap them out. If not and you don't give a flying rat, then f it!
