I have a '92 Ford Explorer XLT.

I changed the intake manifold gaskets a couple months ago.

After this was done, the vehicle started with a missing and so I changed the spark plugs, wire, filters.

It still continued. The missing would be as I drive off for about 100 yds then the engine suddenly clears up and then runs normal.

Over the last few days this missing has been getting worst. Evn after driving for about 1/2 mile it still misses. Today while driving and it was missing, the "check engine" light came on. I came to a stop and then started up the engine again started to drive off and it did not miss.

Looking for any suggestion on what may be causing this.

Thanks for you help.

Could you have a vaccum leak from when you changed the gasket? You say you have a CEL, find out what the code is and then we can go from there.

Thank you snocross1985.

We checked for a vacuum leak but cannot find one.

What's the CEL?

CEL = Check Engine Light (which you said was on). Find out what your code is that is causing the light.

As I mentioned in my original post, the engine light of my explorer came on while it was missing / bogging.

Let me say that since then the missing / boggin has stopped.

IS this a good sign or a bad sign?

Also from the a/c vent on the dash while the a/c and fan were off hot air use to come out of there while driving.

If your problem has stopped, I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe the gaskets have gone thru a few heating/cooling cycles now, and are mating better to the surfaces.

The "Check Engine" light means that the computer has stored a trouble code. That code is what Scott is talking about. That code can help tell you what is wrong. You can get the code, and all you need is a paper clip.

the symptoms you described are consistent with a vac leak.

A little air coming out of the vents while everything is off, is normal for 1st gens.

Thanks Rhett, how do I go about getting the code?

I was hoping you wouldn't ask. :) Do a search for "paper clip" on this site, and you will find the exact procedure.

I mentioned the paper clip, because I am not sure if you can find a OBD-I code reader in Belize. I am not sure what stores Belmopan or whatever town you are in, have. If you can find a code reader ($40 here in the USA) that will do it too...

belizegial, if you can't find a code reader let me know. I'm sure we can send you one.

Positive Vibes, I am not sure what to look for.

Certainly if you're going to send me the code reader for free, then let me know

my gut feeling is that you may be having some sort of fuel pressure problem.

Creager, this was mentioned to me a few days ago.

I am hoping that my mechanic can test my fuel pressure for me.

Sorry, nothing's free. You would have to pay for the part and shipping.

Positive Vibes, I am a believer of "if you don't ask, you don't get" (-:

Belizegial look at the last post in this thread:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=163470

Notice how he gives the paper clip procedure. And what you have to do, after you have the clip touching the leads, is look in your cab at the "check engine" light. The check engine light will flash the code. The first code will be a check code, three flashes. Then a separator code (1 flash). Then it will give you your STORED CODES. And that's the code you want. Code 142 would be, FLASH ...<short pause>... FLASH FLASH FLASH FLASH....<short pause>...FLASH <longer pause> next code... and so forth...

Each flash represents a number. 1 flash is the number 1. Two flashes is the number 2. and so forth. If you can write down the flashes, you can figure out what code is stored.

thank you Rhett, as soon as my mechanic is back from holiday, I'll have him check it for me and let you know how it goes.
