I recently installed a K&N intake kit and I want to finish off the upgrade by installing headers, high flow cat, and exhaust. Does anyone know of any aftermarket companies that have a product that will fit a 2001 explorer sport? It's a 2 door. It has a SOHC 4.0L V6. I found JBA Cat forward headers that I think will fit but they are $$$. Also if anyone has installed any exhaust system stuff on this truck give me an idea of how hard it is. Finally, does anyone know what type of HP gains I can expect from doing this. The K&N is supposed to give about 6.8HP at 5600 rpm. Thanks!

jba headers are 374.99 at www.explorerunderground.com, thats the cheapest i found them, but thats a good price for headers that are so hard to find. they have high flow cats there also. spend a lot of time looking into cats, some of them flow the same or less than stock cats. random technology cats say they flow at between 500 and 600 cfm, so that may be an option for you, but they cost all most as much as headers.

With your engine, headers will gain you very little if anything in the way of H.P<JMO

What about headers and a cat back exhaust? Will this improve my performance? Or is it just for looks and sound?

A better catback system may be money well spent in the H.P hunt, if your state laws will be okay with it, a true header system sort of went the way of carbs, with fuel injected engines the past bang for the buck just is not there anymore

three things make horsepower: fuel, air flow, and displacement. you obviously cant do anything about displacement. since you got the air intake, you might as well get headers, a better cat (or punch them out, but you'll fail emissions if your tested), and a high flowing muffler. you can get the fuel to match your increased air flow with larger fuel injectors and a chip. or you can be patient and order the supercharger from explorer express, but they haven't finished them yet. im getting headers, a cat, and a better muffler within the next month or so, if you want to wait ill tell you about the gains i get.

Thats way cool, if in your state you can lose the cats compleatly, go with headers and true duels, may be impressive, if you are stuck with headers and cats, may not be a big deal, have fun.
Edit, by the way, EE is shipping the SC for the SOHC V6 for non-Calif applications

Thanks a lot fifty. E-mail me once you put the system in and tell me if there is any significant gains. By the way, what brand header and cat-back are you going with. P.S. CT's emissions testing system is so messed up we haven't had any testing for like 2 years. They are supposed to bring it back soon though.

Nice to see another CT guy. If you want to go fast sell your truck and get a v8 with a supercharger like I did. :burnout:

i ordered jba headers, and im going to get a random technologies cat from them, and a flowmaster muffler from autozone. the entire piping system and y pipe will be fabricated.
