Hey all. First of all, thanks for all of the help thus far, and I hope you find my random postings to be helpful.
I have a 1996 Expo XLT 4x4 4.0L (4R55E trans) Currently, it has 112,x.. miles on the odo, and am still on my first trans. About 100 miles ago, I noticed it took some extra power to get it going. Then I noticed that the reason it took this "extra power" is because 1st gear was not fully engaging. I don't know if it isn't actually fully engaging, but that's what it seems like to me. I rev it, and it moves, but it is very sluggish. And then, on occasion it just plops into first gear all the way and shifts normally (besides the 2-3 flare). Other times it will go into first fine, but when shifting into second, the entire car shudders until it engages 2nd. Does anyone know what it might be? I'm not throwing any codes yet, and my OD light isn't flashing.
Basically, the thing I need to figure out is if this is something I can fix without a lot of money, or if it is going to have to be rebuilt. I plan on doing a v8 swap into the explorer once I get money and information together, so if it is going to be a lot of money to fix this transmission, I might try to hold out until I get my v8 swap underway. Open to all suggestions.
