I just drove my dads 2002 XLT V8 2wd to the auto store to pick up parts for my 2002 Limited V8 4wd and man his has way more power than mine. His is completely stock and the tranny is starting to go. My tranny was just replaced less than 2,000 miles ago, I just flushed and replaced the coolant, changed the fuel filter, and put a new cheapy paper filter in along with some holes in the airbox. When the trans was replaced they did the full multi point inspection and no other problems came back the only reccomendations were the coolant flush, fuel filter, and power steering flush. Now I know mine is going to be a little bit slower since I have 32" tires and he has stock tires and im sure the auto 4wd slows me down a bit but its a night and day diff. between mine and his. Is there anything you guys recomend checking out or replacing? I think I am done with my exterior mods and I want to slowly start adding some performance but if I am being robed of stock power I would like to get that back too. Thanks in advance.

Well if you have your sound system still in, larger tires that kill the gear ratio and the fact that you are 4x4 gives you at minimum ~500lbs added weight when compared to your dads, then you will seem slower. How heavy are your wheels? Mine stock were around 68 lbs. Rule of thumb is every 1 pound of rotating mass is equal to 7 pounds of body mass(I have even heard up to 10lbs) So if you wheels are 5 lbs heavier a piece than the stockers, you have theoretically gained 140lbs from the wheels. It's the little things that add up and make the biggest difference.

Does your dad have a tow package?
You might have different rear ends....

Yah im sure alot of it is in my head plus the added weight/bigger tires. The rims are deff heavy but so were the stock steel ones(my dad has the aluminum rims though so im sure thats a huge weight differance). I think im going to replace the spark plugs and just start doing some performance mods as money allows.
