Interesting problem, I have completly lost heat into the passanger compartment. I am trying to track down the problem.

1996 E.B. Edition 6 cyl.

Usually when I switch say from AC to defrost, I hear a door thunk closed. When I lost heat I no longer heard this sound.

Now I have checked all the motors, etc in the passanger compartment and they all seem to be moving.

I removed the small "switch/motor" located in the glove box atop the black box/ pipe. When switching from AC to heater the post rotates. So I am thiniking it is further back.

I took it to a local garage and they would only be replacing parts, and if they replaced the wrong part I would be stuck with it.. no can do. Butthey did say it looks like the heat is making it into the passanger compartment but it is not getting past something.

They did a vacumme check and it checked out fine.

Any ideas on where to look? That door sound is the key, but I just cant find where to look first.

THanks

Sounds like the infamous blend door problem. Run a search for blend door and you will come up with more info than you know what to do with.

THanks will do.

i actually got it to work today, drove the truck around town got gas then stopped the truck.. Boom.. no heat again!

I checked the pipes leading into the passanger compartment and they are hot in and out.

SO heat is coming in.

HEY!!!

You guys are absolutely, undeniable friggen amazing!

Looked at the instructions for the cheap fix.. got my dental mirror out and sure enough you would have thought the photo was my truck! The classic blend door problem...Got my drill and a wire nail, followed the instruction and in less than 15 minutes I HAVE HEAT!!!!!

YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!!

Now I have a guy I owe a couple hundred bux too. he has the same problem.. whadia think worht a couple hundred to him?

WONDERFUL!!!

Tell me really. Was it easy to get the actuator off. Last time I looked, I remember seeing screws that were about impossable to get at. All I could think about was sharks being attracted to all the blood.

I lucked out, I removed the actuator and base... and only the front 2 screws had to come out. I think there might have been a 3rd at one time I used a 8mm socket, it took a little bit but not too bad.

I was afraid to just pop it by prying it out of the base as it was really cold and the clips would have shattered. I was not in the mood to be SOL.

alrighty all u car experts---im glad u got ur situation fixed but its fu##in cold here too and my heaters out---something that is funny is my ac only works when i put it on full blast and when i turn the right control to off it doesnot go off just blows cold air i have to turn the left control to the one dot to shut the air off

keep in mind i shunk my truck under water could that have ruined my heater coil?? personally i wouldnt think so but dunno thnk eric

that sucks you must be freezin

I have been having trouble with my heater to. I am getting some heat but not alot, I can drive around with the fan on high & I don't have to turn it down, the air is warm enough to defrost the windows but it is not as hot as it should be. I have flushed the heater core its wide open, I have also checked the temp. of the 2 hoses, they are off about 40 - 50 degrees at times. I put a vacuum tester on the heater control valve and can make it work, but I cannot get to work by putting on the AC. Does the engine need to be at operating temp for this valve to work? Some people have told me this is the blend door problem but I am not so sure. Any help you guys may have on this would be appreciated.
