Hey every one I have a 97 mercury mountaineer and I know that they are very similar to a ford explorer so maybe some one could help me out. The problem is that when I would to use my left turn signal it would make a buzzing sound so I would adjust my steering wheel to the up right position and then it would work just fine. But now when I try to put it in the up right postion to use it all it does is make that loud buzzing sound. I was told that it has to do with this ring in the steering colum and that to get it fixed I would need to talk off the steering wheel and air bag to replace this ring. Does anybody know what I am talking about or have any idea on how to fix my problem? Also my check gage light is always on. There is absoluty nothing wrong with my engine. I have had it checked and serviced and the only time it goes off is if I disconnect my battery and then reconnect it. It will stay off for a little bit then it comes back on after I have started my car more then 3 or 4 time. If any body has any idea how to fix my troubled suv I really appreciate the advice. thank you :frustrate

Sounds like you have a problem with the multifunction switch. Its easy to replace.

Good luck ........

I have the same thing and I was told it was a short in the stalk and in order to replace the stalk you had to remove the steering column and in order to remove the steering column you had to remove the dash and in order to remove the dash....see where this is going? I say forget and if it happens I flip it back to the center and try again. Usually its done shorting out for another month or so.

lol mine made a noise on sunday, like an electrical buzz. The thing is it was in between going into the left turn signal and off, kinda like when you move the wiper blades and they get stuck in the middle of the windshield. I moved the stick and it stopped......could this be a sign of worse things to come? But yeah its your stalk. Replace that and you should be fine. theres a bunch on ebay for sale at good prices.

the stalk i think as what your referring to is the turn signal thinie with the wiper blade control on em too....did i get that question right>?

this only happens to me when it is cold out...

Maybe low on blinker fluid? (jk)

Come on guys you all were thinking that too!!

Still don't know whats wrong

Okay so I asked my dad about the multifunction switch and he said that he has already taken it out and cleaned it I thenk he might have replaced it but he said that's not the problem. There is a ring in the steering colum and I need to know the name of it and what it does does any body have any ideas.

Also my check engine light is always on there isn't any thing wrong with my engine. I have had it serviced and the only time it goes off is if we disconnect the battery then reconnect it. The light will stay off till i have started my car at least four time. Any one know how ti fix it? :frustrate

I don't know hwat you mean. I don't think any code came back from the dignostics thing. I am sure if there was one we would have had it fixed.

If your CEL is illuminated, almost always there will be a code. You need to read the code(s).

Good luck .....
