I know what some may have thought from the title, but I'm refering to the Limited Slip Diff!
Today, it has been a terrential downpour here, I was pulling away at a stop light and was accelerating somewhat aggressively, about 4-5k rpms. I was in 2wd and I heard a CLUNK from what sounded like the LSD activating or shifting or something.
Is it possible for the LSD to make a loud sound when engaging?
Is it normal or should it be checked?

The stock Track Lock LSD is a clutch type. It doesn't really "engage" and "disengage," as it's technically always "engaged". A clunk suggests something is loose, that is possibly exacerbated by the existence of the LSD.
Are you certain the sound came from the differential? If so, I'd remove the cover and make sure there are no metal chips inside, and no missing pieces from the spider gears and ring gear.
If your not sure it came from the diff, I'd check the driveshaft u-joints, transmission mounts, and engine mounts.

Mr. Shorty, thanks for the reply.
No, I'm not positive it came from the LSD. I just assumed it did because the sound happened when pulling away from a fresh green light, and it seemed like my rear tires slipped just a little, then the "clunk" happened, and no wheel spin. It definitely came from the rear half of the truck.
I will check the things you suggested.
Thanks again.
Dave

are you sure it wasnt the 4wd engaging?

Ru-dawg : mine does that in the rain. If I am sittin still and then give it some go, it will start to let the tires slip and then somewhat "grab" and keep the wheels from slipping. Nothing to be worried about, but it's the 4wd being engaged. Just my two cents from expierence. Hope it somewhat helps.

Thanks for the info guys, but it couldn't have been the 4WD engaging, I was in 2WD.
That's why I thought it was the LSD, because it happened just as I was pulling away from the light.
I think I need to look at the things MrShorty mentioned....
