thats the best i can explain it. it's not your average hum, it's pretty damn annoying. it can't be a coincidence that it started a day after i installed it. what can it be? i am using the A/C which gives a little hum off, but this is nothing like that, it's loud. it also goes away when i'm driving. it's really only when i'm parked or in drive with my foot on the brake. any help is much appreciated.

IAC

IAC ? Which is short for?

IAC - short for idle air control (valve). Basically, they wear out easy on the explorers, and you normally don't notice much except maybe a rougher idle. When you put on an aftermarket intake, you get a lot more air and this worn-out valve will act like a whistle. It is attached by the throttle body, and controls the ammount of air that goes in your engine when the throttle plate is closed. If you find it, try taking off the black cap and cleaning the filter under it. If this doesn't work, take it off and clean the whole thing. If that doesn't work, you'll probably need a new one.

If you need any more help, try a search for howling or IAC. it is a common problem

ya, i did search and found that plenty of us have had this problem. i cleaned it out a little while ago with gumout carb cleaner but i'm not sure it quite worked. i'll know for sure tommorow. worse comes to worse, i have to get a new one. from what i understand this is not a dealer part right? i can get this at a local auto store i believe. the $ sucks, but the install should be a joke.

The dealer should have it. I'd actually get a Ford one before I got a copy.

you're probably right alec. might be a little more but it may be worth it in the long run.

section, how do you know? did you have to also replace your IAC?

I also have the same hum coming from mine, how do i remove the black plastic cap?Does it just pop off with a little pull or what?and what do i do once the cap is off?

ya, i cleaned the IAC, but i did not pull off the cap. i gave it a little tug and nothing, so i left it alone. maybe i should get it off and clean that too.

you can pop the cap off, just give it a lil umph

Not all IAC's are cleanable. Some of them don't come apart(Even ones from Ford)

my IAC came right off with 2 bolts and an un-plug. real easy. i just cleaned it all up with carb cleaner and yes it wa scummy. i didn't take the cap off though, so i'll do that before i get a new IAC.
