My 92 Explorer had a kenwood HU in it that used to pop when I switched between sources. Someone broke into my car and stole the faceplate awhile back and I just had a JVC HU put in because it was the cheapest, installed at the audio place I went to. Now, every time I turn off the car, or turn the volume to 0 I get a loud pop. I'm not sure if it does it when I change sources because I haven't checked; but I have a few questions.

1. I'm not sure if the factory amp is bypassed, would that cause this issue? (also does anyone know a part # for a bypass harness I can still order)

2. If I wanted to replace the factory amp with a new aftermarket amp, what can I do to stop the pop? (assuming it is a probably with the amp)

3. If I do install an aftermarket amp can I just plug and play using the factory wires?

Thanks in advance fora any help. I tried using the search function for question 1 and couldn't find anything so I figured I might as well ask about 2 and 3 since I was starting a thread anyways.

If you install an aftermarket amp, you will need to run your own wires. If you want a harness punch in your vehicle info on crutchfield and they show you harnesses you need.

Now for the pop, I want to say that its bc the stereo is using the factory amp and the remote turn on is 12v and the ford amp needs 5v. At least thats what I have read. So I want to say if you get an aftermarket amp then you should lose the pop all together.

I installed a sub in my 02 and got a pop, turned out a circuit inside the amp was faulty causing this.

I believe this is called a ground loop. You might even have a small whine in the speakers that seams to get louder the higher the RPM go up on the motor. You don't have a Pioneer Head unit which are notorious for this problem so it must be something else.

Are you using cheap RCA's? Make sure you have a good pair of Shielded RCS cables. Not the black ones that you has to remove the Yellow Video Cable from to make it look right.

Check the Ground on the Head unit itself. Maybe the factory wires are not efficient enough and it could help to ground the unit in another manner other than the regular black wire to black wire method.

AMP ground of course is the next step.

I am a firm believer in wire proximity locations. What I mean is I make sure that my RCA cables and my Power cables are as far apart as possible. Some will say that's a stupid idea. Some will agree.
