Loud whining noise from under hood 03 ex

When I go to accelerate, there is a LOUD whining noise coming from under the hood of the car, strange thing is that it only happens when the a/c is on. Anybody have this happen? The compressor still runs, and my air is ice cold so I'm hoping its not the compressor since its only a year old.

i have the same sound. the lower ribbed idler pulley (right side bottom) is bad. i can wiggle it. I just ordered a new one and will install soon. hopefully this is your problem too. cheap fix. getting it off can be an problem unless you have one of those special tools. Ordered that too from rock auto.

It only happens when the ac is on, and only lasts until I get to like 40 mph. Could that still be a pulley?

I'll keep it in mind. Just think its weird that it's caused by the ac being on.

Two shops say its the compressor. Estimated 1200-2000 to replace and flush system. Fml.

BS. <$400 to replace yourself, and <$100 to flush and recharge afterwards. A new compressor and clutch can be found on rockauto.com.
