Hi Guys,

I just got done cleaning my MAF and IAC, re-set the computer and drove it till it got up to temp.

Now my X is idleing at around 500rpm while in gear. Will this go away on its own or did I screw something up putting it back together?

Thanks,

Mike N.

read the TPS voltage. i think its supposed to be at like .96 or something... im not sure tho, but search the message board for the voltage.

yeah .96 volts is about right. I have an O.K. running 1994 XL, and my TPS runs at .96 v at idle. :-)

I didnt have a meter to check the tps. but I have read the threads and will do so in the future.

Before I cleaned the IAC and the MAF, the X would idle just under 1000 rps
(in park)

after I cleaned the IAC and the MAF the X would only idle at around 500rps and fluctuate, sometimes stalling out untill it got to run for a minuite or so.... then it would idle pretty good but would still be a little lower than normal, causing it to hesitate when I gave it rappid acceleration.

this lasted for two days and it p***** me off so I just went ahead and put a new IAC on it, and now everything seems to be back to normal. :)

I am wondering If I should have waited to see if it would of worked itself out on its own, or if I had screwd it up by using carb cleaner instead of electrical cleaner?

Is there a small "port" that I mave have clogged up by accident witch would cause it to act like this? ( I ask this question because I suspect that the fiber filter behind that black cap is for some kind of air intake )

what do you guys think?

Thanks,

Mike N.

Two things -- why did you clean the IAC and MAF when it didn't need to be? The idle seems a little high, but around 850-950RPMs is where it should idle. Also, the carb cleaner -- that could be your problem. The carb cleaner is pretty harsh when it comes to cleaning things, especially the MAFS! Use brake clean or something a little less harsh.

I decided to clean these things because my X has 160k miles on it and sometimes I would get a slight vibration ( rough idle) while in gear with the brakes on......I used carb cleaner because it was what I had laying around.

When I cleaned the MAF i simply sprayed the cleaner on a Q-tip and jently wiped the wires. ( as described in a previous post) Do you think I may have screwd it up also by using the carb cleaner?
