low idle and dash light ???

hey i have a 97 mounty and just today, when braking to a light the idle went to about 200 and the battery light came on! i stepped on the gas and reved it up a lil and everything went back to ok... what could that be??? all help app

or take it to auto parts place...they check it for free

If the idle went down to 200 RPM's then that explains the battery light - engine wasn't turning fast enough to generate sufficient voltage from the alternator.

The idle issue sounds like the precipitating problem. Check out your idle air control - it might be sticking and in need of cleaning. Also make sure your MAF sensor is clean.

Or it could have just been a bit of bad gas....

it was a momentary light, then it went off... otherwise i could go into work (sheehy ford) and borrow my buddies scanner..

oh btw i use shell and it hasnt done it since.... so idk? might brush it off

i checked my battery water level.. and i poured about a half a gallon it it to get back to level! idk if that had anything to do with it.... but its been 2 days and it hasnt done it so im starting to shrugg it off " ehh the ol' girl is 11 years old.. shes aloud a hicuup or 2" lol
