Just put on new tires, Michelins, and went to Goodyear for an alignment. The truck has 115000 and I was just waiting for the "you need new Ball Joints" speech. It came and we went out to the truck so I could see how much play was in them. The lower left was definitely in need of replacement and the right was on a questionable edge. Like I said, 115000 miles, but it is still in excellent condition.
The bottom Line is the alignment cost $59 and the quote to replace both lowers came to a total of $500. Is that about normal for replacing both lowers?

Well then I guess i'm the only one to get them replaced.

Thats about what they told me at Monroe. I said, Screw it, Ill do it myself.

if you can afford to have it done professionally, i would. that way you don't go through alll the trouble, but it CAN be done by yourself, ther eare a few threads to help.

just make sure you don't pay for another alignment when it's done, inf act, they shouldn't have even done an alignment if it can't hold it.

so make sure when teh balljoints are replaced, they redo the alignment, i know the places around here say their alignments will hold for either 6000 miles or 6 month, whichever is first.

Was your explorer making a clicking noise from the front enwhen braking or moving at slow speeds?
