Just bought a '98 XLT V8

I am quite intrigued by the Explorer Express lowering and handling package.

Having the X about 1 1/2" lower would help my wife get in and out and keep a relatively stock look.

But how much of that swaying sensation does the lowering and sway bars actually remove? The side to side motion can be distressing.

The only time it might be "Off Road" is if one of us forgets that we are not in the car and slides it off a turn!

Thanks
Terry

You won't believe the difference in handeling the EE kit makes.

Highly recommend it. I have had mine 2 years now and love it.

The only negative i can find about it is that it rides rougher than stock' I feel the better handeling is worth it though.

rides rougher than stock is a given. but like al said its well worth it. a little tip: do not lower more than 1 3/4 inches or your wife will hate the ride.

No, I'm not really tempted to make it really low.

My daily driver car is too low to slide the nose over curbs anymore. But as soon as the bars arrive for it later this month it will be pretty much a Slot Car! Rides rough now with a 1 1/2" drop and the low sidewall tires don't help either.

I lowered my 96X and upgraded to a 98 sway bar in front didnt change rear sway bar. With the Mounty I have put on an EE rear sway bar only and changed to Energy Sus. bushings and sway bar end links in front.
Comparing the two I like the ride and handeling of the Mounty better.
Monroe Reflex shocks on both.

EE is not the only way to go as far as the lowering kit... You can get 2" blocks, U Bolts, camber adjusters (if you do TT infront), and pay 1/2 of the price for new shocks, for about the same as you would get w/ just the lowering kit from EE.

However the EE kit is a great kit, although expensive and right now I have a group buy going on it (that is pretty much stalled) if you want to get in on that, we need 5 people total to get the discount. But, it ends very soon, so you would have to get 5 people really quick.

Whatever you do - get the upgraded anti-sway bars from EE. They make a WORLD of difference. They dramatically reduce sway. If you lower your ex tho, try getting shorter end links for the front sway bars as well... I did that when I lowered mine.

Edit: BTW - I'm lowered (not EE kit), but with the EE sway bars, and I get almost NO tilt side to side.

I think that I will probably just buy the whole handling kit as EE offers it.

Getting rid of the feeling of side to side motion is the most important to me and the 1 1/2" lower is the most important to my wife.

She will be the daily driver. I just do weekends when we need to haul something or carry more than 2 people.
Otherwise we play in my daily driver. Turns more heads than the Explorer.
