I just have to vent a little.I'm not going to bash any company's but I have to say I just bought a Lund Windjammer for my xsport and man what a problem I'm having.A buddy of mine painted it for me cheap because I help him.Paint looks great but it dosen't fit.I've called Lund with the part # they say It's the right one for my truck. The problem is one side dosen't want to cooperate with me.One side sticks the other pops up and on and on.I'm out of options. It's looks good on but for how long long will it stay on!!! I was on I95 and had a vision of this thing just flying off.So far we stripped of the old double sided tape but new tape heated it with the heat gun and reapplied the windjammer still no good.If any one has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated...
I went to the local ford dealerships autobody center with mine.
They painted it for me for 40 bucks- i couldnt paint it myself cuz my particular paint code for my year EXPLORER comes in 8 different shades. I guess that particular year there 8 slightly different shades of Medium Wedgewood Blue that were sprayed for that model year. Anyways they matched it perfect.. Looked Awesome- i went home and mounted it.. 1 side kept lifing up. 3 days later i went back to the place that painted it.
They installed it using some adhesive (not 3m sticky tape) - it was some goopy stuff they used that will hold like nothing else.. This thing will not come up now- but the cool thing is- if i ever want it off.. they have a special debonder for it and they will remove it for me if i ever need it off.
So what am i getting at?
go to an autobody shop - have them mount it - they will use something other than the crappy 3M tape. and it will hold like nothing else.
Since i got mine painted at the same place that mounted it- they charged me nothing- plus they waxed it and polished it up once it was mounted.. for $40 id say i got a deal
I have the same problem with mine. Mine has been on there for about a year but I think I'm gonna take it off. One side is hardly sticking and there's a big gap there. Personally, I don't think it fits right. I'm gonna take mine off because I dont like the way it looks from certain angles. I'm also gonna be going to carshows this summer and I dont think the judges will like a "cheap" piece of plastic that is half-ass glued to the truck. I need a Saleen wing.
I installed mine using the screws they provide. I did want to trust the self adhesive tape, afraid that one day it would blow off. The screws are at the top so you dont notice them. If someone can tell me how I can post a pic i can show you
Your right about checking to see if it fits before painting and trying to install...But you figure the place you bought it from and They paint it...And install it would know what they are doing.Because in the end it turned out they ordered me the wrong wing. You see for some reason Lund does not list a windjammer for a 2002 sport just 2002 explorer and that is for a 4dr,The right wing for my truck was a windjammer which is listed for a 2001 explorer for what ever reason the two wings are two different designs. But anyway problem solved after some research of my own.
Ok, everybody keeps talking about the Saleen wing. I checked out the Saleen site but can't find a wing for the Explorer. Where do you get one of these wings? Can I get one for an '03? If not who makes the best looking for the 'o3's?
I used self tapping paintable screws for my windjammer and silicone around the screws and it has been on for 4 years now with no problems what so ever and my dad did a good job painting my front visor and rear spoiler and neither has had any problems with being loose or rattle. We mounted both with screws and no problems what-so-ever
