I installed a 1500xl ma audio subwoofer with one of their hk-397 amps (600 wrms sub and amp)

I installed it inverted in conjuction with mbquart discus 6.5" components, and a pioneer 3600 hu in a 1996 trooper. the box i built was 4 cubic feet with a 37 square inch by 15" port.

all i can say is that i'm very very impressed with the sub. the spl level is great for a single sub. the overall listening feel of the quality of the sub was very impressive. It does a very good job of being inconspicuous while playing classic rock and the like it doesn't do anything out of line to give away its position etc. but when you turn the bass up a bit on the hu it sounds awesome. track 3 from the new west side connection disc blew my mind that i was listening to such a cheap and small set-up.

this sub looks awesome inverted as well. i would highly recommend this line of subs in the future. My brother (who has two L5s) is already talking about UPGRADING to 4 of these because he loved their sq/spl mix.

ah another believer..... I correct trash talkers quite often about ma, usually they haven't heard them....

dave how do you like the X2 Hard cores?

I think a lot of people talk ish on MA Audio is because they think they don't do their power ratings, when they need to know that ma usually rates them off 17v

I love these subs, pretty much the best subs I've owned so far....
I think the spl stats speak for themselves, I can hang w/ some big names in the lanes using these subs...

BUT for sq, I'd look into a different series

As for amp ratings, pretty much all of ma amps are rated with both 14.4 and 17v, so maybe folks need to read more lol...

I have 2 MA 10"s and love them. I just found out the other day that MA and Audiobaun are the same company.
I was thinking about 6x8s for my doors but have only heard there subs.

They're from the same parent company. You'll findout that a lot of companies will be made from the same parent companies.

I've heard them quite a few times and I think they're ok for low-end installs. I don't really trust a company that has to rate their amplfier output at 14.4 and 17 volts. Just shows they don't have the innards of a high quality amp. But hey, for Joe schmo who just wants something loud and better than stock, you can't go wrong with them.

the only thing I ever suggest to peopel form MA audio are their lower line subs and their 30 band xovers, the other stuff is just not good enough including speakers. their cd player looks sexy though.

and naw, they suck for low end, all their subs have a high Fs preventing lowend without really good box tuning, but I tried it once with their 00' XEs models, 4 cubed box, 1 12" tuned to 25hz, not good at all! they only sounded good sealed.

i guess i have to defend ma- what makes you say they just arent good enough? I've installed many subs (almost exclusively in the past from brands that you would hold in much higher esteem) and i remain very impressed with this sub from their "higher" line of subs. Have you installed one of these? do you think you can find a better combination of spl/sq and looks than this sub and the box i built for it for the price? It is my opinion that this sub is one of the best values i've ever run across.

Nope, 2 different companies, Anaba group which owns visonik, ma audio, rockbox, mobile authority, clif designs etc.
And audiobahn inc etc. alphasonik, digital audio, swiss audio?

I have the hard kore 6x8 coaxes in my doors off 100w x4 amp power for now, and they sound pretty good, better than their older series, and the old pioneers and rockfords I've had...

Open one up and look, most amps actually wont handle up to 17 volts, so hows that low-end? Ever see a hk4000d? :D :p You'll change your mind...

lol I just picked up a sy30eq, lots of knob turning for me! My x2's fs is 31.xx which is not that bad for a spl woofer... I ran the xe's before, yeah it does take a sizeable box to get a smooth response, I think for my old ones for a low tuned qtc .707 or so it was like 1.25 ft3, ported like 3.5ft3 I believe the XL's fs are a bit better, as the XE's are considered "entry level"..

You should look into some of their amps, they are not bad at all! I think they could work on thier components and speakers though, but from what I heard they are for the upcoming year...

Long post....

I was going to get to 15" MA Audio subs They were 450 rms each but my dad would let me get anything without hearing it (he paid for most of my system) so I got compvrs from a local place.

Good to know dave after i just bought those components from you! ;)

Ha, they are components though... and with that you'll get good sound....
Did ya get them installed yet? sheesh ;) They were ma's high end components for the last year... I was unimpressed by the hard kore components, that's why I was gonna use those y3k components....

yea i dont doubt they'll sound great. no i havent put em in yet :( i got my amp for them but my boss was gonna order all the wiring i needed but didnt get around to it for awhile now im back at school and dont know where to put my amp so its one big mess ;) oh well ill get it figured out some day...maybe christmas break
