So I was tinkering with the idea of installing the factory mach sub enclosure in my 99 xl.

My vehicle came with just the base stereo system (no changer, no sub), which has been upgraded to all aftermarket components.

When I was talking to Boomin' about purchasing his old setup I was hoping that this would be a simple add-on. However after a short time with the search feature I believe it may be more involved than simply plugging it in or running a wire to the HU.

Someboy mentioned that the HU would have to be synchronized to the mach system.

Can anyone confirm what would be beccessary to do this.
I apologize for my lack of knowledge with audio, so keep it simple :D

I am kind of doing the same thing. I have done some research on this, and i know a little but not much.

First of all, which HU do have? I know that certain ones have outputs for the subwoofer. All the MACH HU's have it, and some of the Premium HU's(cd/tape combo) have it. I have the premium head unit, but no outputs for the sub.

As for instalation, it can be simple and it can be hard. The subwoofer itself is easy to install, as for the wiring for it, if you have it you can save yourself a major headache.
If you dont have the wiring, you may have to go the a salvage yard and try to dig one out yourself out of another explorer, and i dont recomend it. I spent 3 hours in a wrecked explorer trying to get the wiring harness out, only to find out that it wasnt going to work. And the cost for it at a dealer ship? I was told about $250, just for the harness.

I think the best way to go is to get aftermarket stuff, but thats my opinion. I hope i cleared this up for you.

I have the wiring that goes to the front kick panel for the sub. Should it be a simple little splice in?

Is that where it plugs into? I need something for my 96.
