I went to the scrapyard today (dead Explorer heaven thanks to the clunker program) and perused around for a 5.0 ex or mounty. found a mounty and the engine had obviously been fed that liquid glass stuff to kill it.

That stuff shouldn't have affected the maf and throttle body though, right? I was thinking of nabbing those two items for my 93 but I wasnt sure if I should get them from a dead vehicle. If they are unaffected then I'll go back on Wednesday and get them.

Which brings another question to my mind; will a 5.0 tb fit a 4.0?

Also, they wanted $45 for the maf! Seems like a lot based on what I have heard of people getting them for.

5.0 TB will nto fit onto a 4.0... I think.

The MAF price is ridiculous. Tell 'em NO SIR!! I paid like 10-15 bucks for mine. Try a few other junkyards. Keep in mind it can be any 4.6L or 5.0L engines.

So my only option for a bigger tb is to buy an aftermarket one then? like the bbk?

Modify your Stock one, or waste the $200+ on the BBK.....

I've done both....modifying the stock one gets my vote.

For our motor, as old as they are no matte rhow many miles you have on it. I'd say just follow Ryan's advice and modify your stock one. couple that with an open element filter and a 5.0L maf you'll get about as good air flow as you can.

Yeah I read that thread about modifying the 4.0 tb a while back. I'll just do that I suppose. Thanks for the help everyone :D

there was someone who took a 5.0 tb i believe and used his wifes plastic cutting board to make an adapter for his 4.0
he also took the maf and used that. it was a fairly new thread. maybe a few weeks ago

The 4.6L TB on a 4.0L SOHC mod was done a few years ago by aldive....he has since removed it. I don't remember why....

But it has been done a few times.

Yes. It matters. The 4.6L won't bolt to the 4.0L OHV.

Just modify the shaft.

will the 4.6 maf housing work(like on a crown vic v8) with my 4.0 ohv? is it any bigger?

I went back today and pulled the maf off of a v8 mounty. The thing is, it's plastic and not metal. I think this is the same thing but I could be wrong.. http://capa.com.au/pics/gms_ford_airflow_meter_big.jpg

anyway, I installed it no problem and I noticed my trucks throttle response improved a bit. So I am happy :)

It's a lot bigger. Yes it will work. Take a measuring tape with you though first, measure it out to make sure it's the 70mm upgrade.
