MAF issues 97- 99

I recently read that 97-99 Explorers had MAF issues, more specifically problems with the sensors getting dirty. This is a problem that is known and reported by ford. Does anyone know anything about this?

Have never heard anything about this on this site, but several write ups on the net.

Ford Sucks.... I went to remove the electronics for the MAF sensor so I could clean it and it seems ford put a plastic cap in the hole so it could not be removed. Now what.

Plastic cap? pop it out, is a safety torx, break of the pin or get a safety torx bit set, a few bux at kragens, or remove the maf housing compleate and clean it with the sensor in place

I did remove it complete and clean it but the cleaner did not work. I believe I got air filter oil on the filaments. I used radio shack electronics cleaner sprayed like 3 times waiting 15minutes in between. Did not help much.
