How do you know if it has gone bad and you need a new one? Is it just when the filaments or wires are broken, or something like bad milage or constant pinging?

Anyway...Just curious.

I believe if it went bad you would get a check engine light. Try cleaning it. I just cleaned the one in my sisters 94X today and it made a world of a difference.

Thanks, yea i've cleaned mine a half dozen times since i've had it (yr&1/2) last time was about a month ago. I was just wondering if after 10+ yrs, its time to replace it.

Oe thing I have found is WHAT you clean it with matters. Many carb and brake cleaners leave a residue behind that necessitates repetitive cleaning. Electrical contact cleaner is best.

As for replacement... the principle is a heated wire is compared to a non heated wire and from there the MAF creates a signal. Real simple in concept. If it ain't broke don' t fix it - comes to mind.

Happy Exploring

Glacier hit it on the nose. The MAF is just a "hot tip" anometer. If both filaments are there and not broken, it should be fine.

Okeedokee!
