MAF has triggered the CEL again but the 93 XLT runs OK when disconnected. I cleaned the MAF and reinstalled but the truck runs rough if I keep the MAF connected. I measured the ohmic value across the the actual posts where the elements are located and they read about 22 ohms each. But when I measure the resistance at the connector I get no reading. I would appreciate some input why this is so. I would expect the identical reading there as that is what the ECU would see.

This site has the best diagnostics I have found for the MAF. One think to understand is that the MAF is an electronics package that outputs voltage based on airflow.

Thanks Roadrunner. Great info re the MAF and how it works. My MAF looks clean but I'm going to reclean it again. I'll probably get a can of MAF cleaner at Walmart, but I'd like your opinion about isopropal alcohol. I have 70% strength here at home. Should I use it or not? I value your judgement.

I do not recommend 70%, too much water. If you find MAF at walmart, you have a better store than mine, I only found it at Orielly's. MAF cleaner is first choice, then electronic contact cleaner, then, the highest strength alcohol you can find.

I was pretty obsessive about cleaning my MAF because I have a USB computer microscope and at magnification, it looked extra dirty. Ultimately, I used MAF cleaner, and a very small stiff artist's paintbrush to scrub the crud off.

But, unless it is grossly dirty, I don't think the elements are the issue. Did you check 12v, ground and signal?

No. I plan to reclean first and then do the probing.
