First off the motor is beginning to knock something terrible and when I drained the oil yesterday there were metal shavings in it. I'm thinking this is the main bearings on the crank starting to go? Does the whole motor have to be rebuilt to fix such a thing? Or would I just be better off finding a junkyard one?

Thanks for the help.

Welcome.

Main bearings are unlikely. Is you engine a SOHC V6? If so this is most likely your timing chain tensioners that have fallen apart into your oil pan and you engine may be a bit out of timing now or the sprocket have have skipped a spot on the chain.

Do a search for "timing chain SOHC" on the forum. This problem is very well documented on this forum.

If this is the case, which it most likely is. You will either have to pull the front cover off the engine (maybe to back too) to replace the tensioner. However this wouldn't be all that much more work than just dropping in a another engine if you can get it for cheap.

No it isn't the SOHC. Could the same problem be the case on the OHC?

There is no OHC, You have an OHV or a SOHC engine. My guess is that Hitchhikingmike has nailed the problem...

Whoops. Then it is the OHV. Sorry about that. Thanks a lot for the suggestion guys.
