i just replaced the rotors and calipers on my X--now when I try to stop the antilock brakes kick in when the petal hits the end. What is the deal? I bled the front brakes a couple of times. SHould I just do it again?

do it again... the pedal shouldnt hit the end, in fact on a properly bled system it shouldnt even come close to the floorboard

yeah, that makes sense. I just bled it again and tried it out again. I realized the problem doesn't occur when the petal hits the end. The problem occurs at the end of the stop. Everything is fine until I am about to stop moving. Then the antilocks kick in. This happens when I slam the brakes or gently stop. Maybe its a little grease on the rotor. Would that explain it? Will it burn off??

it will burn off if there is grease on it.... also... if you gjust changed the pads... they probably havent broken in yet....

The pads are about a month or two old. I replaced them but couldn't get to the rest until today. So they should be broken in. I drove about 20 miles with the new stuff and it still does it. As I go press the brakes and go down to about 5 mph the Antilock brakes kick in. Tomorrow I have plans on bleeding the whole system. I don't want to but I guess its the next logical step.

Why do I drive????:( :(

It could be your ABS sesors. You may have bumped one out of its place in the hub when changing the brakes.

where i work we arent allowed to change the rotors and pads seperately, because the grooves and cuts in one may screw up the other. say if your pads were worn down on one side due to the last rotor, putting a new rotor would make the pad work on only the side that wasnt worn before, which would wear the rotor out on that side instead. that may be what's going on. even though they may not be too old they may still be a bit warped if then were on your previous rotors.

Are you saying, at your work, you are not alowed to change the pads without changing the rotors? I have never heard of that and can't think of any reason why that would be.

we're not supposed to change (or turn) rotors without putting new pads because if the pads are what screwed up the rotors, why replace them or turn them just to have the pads re-eat them up. see what im saying? its hard to type out. :(

i don't know much about hubs and stuff like that. Do two wheel drives have hubs? If so, then how do I check the sensor?

That may be it? I guess?!? But the pads are less than two months old and they still looked brand new! Also, I wonder if this would be the case wouldn't the X pull to the sides or something? Everything is fine until I get at 5 mph. Then the ABS starts up and it pulls to the right.

kardinal, gotcha. IMO, if your in there messing with the rotors, you might as well change the pads. They are dirt cheap!

lol, im writing paragraphs and u sum it up in one sentence. :D in a nutshell thats what i meant :D ;)

I didn't realize you had a 2wd. they still have an ABS sensor on each front wheel, but I'm not positive where they are located. I'm sure someone with 2wd can help you with this.

I just called MIDAS to see if they will do an inspection for me. He said he couldn't do it b/c they don't like to handle ABS stuff. He wants me to take it to the dealership. He said one problem might be that I bought the rotor from Autozone and he thinks that it comes down to the backing plate on the rotor (cast iron or stamped iron). Can someone help me? I don't want to take it to the dealership but it is driving me crazy.

P.S. I just bled the whole system. While I was at the front passenger tire I noticed a clicking sound when the brake was pressed. Could this be part of the problem????

HELP

Don't do the dealership!

Hey Dave, the guys at Long Lewis Ford didn't do that well of a job inspecting my brakes. I say we set aside a sat or sun and figure this one out. We have to do the same with mine because the same thing is happening to me, but alot lighter. You have to have the radio to hear it, but you can't feel it like you can yours. Take care bro.
