since ford decided to be an asshole and not put a drain plug in the 6r60, has anyone drilled and tapped their own? im thinking somewhere on the pan would probably work, or would this be a bad idea for some reason? Im just not trying to make a huge atf mess from dropping a pan full of fluid when i do a change.

Lisle makes a big a$$ drain pan funnel (#17892) that will catch any fluid from the 6r trans. I have one and its saved me from a mercon shower.

I put a drain plug in the left rear corner, so the lisle pan is now in storage.

Thanks!

I used a $10 fluid transfer pump from harbor freight to suck most of the fluid out before I dropped the pan. The little remaining fluid will collect toward the rear, so it's easy to pour it into an oil collection pan without spilling. In theory, you shouldn't have to do this often, so I don't mind the lack of a drain plug.

ive never had a transmission with a drain plug so its not because ford decided to be assholes.... and it encourages people to change fluid and not the filter even though draining it before dropping a full pan of hot oil on your face is better

It’s about saving a few cents, most likely. Ford would much prefer you do zero maintenance.

Changing just the fluid is far better than changing nothing which is what almost everyone does. Every foreign car I’ve owned has them, even the $15,000 special.
