Hey i searched for a way to do this but turned up squat. I have an 03 sport im trying to turn into a mild trail rig i know wheel travel will be limited by the ifs so ive turned to putting as much power to the ground as possible. so a big thing is lockers. Im looking at a few rear like the lock right, spartan locker or ausie locker. Ive found them for the rear. Up front i would like to just weld the diff but this is stil my daily so unless i can disconnect hubs i wont be doing that. its an 03 sport my cvs go directly into the hubs so there is no engagement or disengagement. Is there anyway to convert them to the older manual hubs? If not i plan on going with an auto locker like the rear so could anyone tell me what the front diff size is?

Thanks in advance!

AVM manual hubs with 99 ranger halfshafts, unit bearings, you also need two seals national oil seal part number 710519 and two of the sirclips ford part number F87Z-3B457-AA

is there any write up on this/ or would it be the same directions as the new auto to manual hubs?

There are a few on here just search 2nd Gen manual hub conversion, its really not a hard job, just swap the halfshafts, the seals I mentioned go in the knuckle then the ranger unit bearings (hub bearings) the ranger halfshafts ( 98/2000 ) are splined instead of threaded, once you have the hub resembled with the splined end of the shaft sticking out of the hub you lock it in place with the clip then the AVM hub just pushes on

I did this a couple of years ago and have been very happy with the conversion. Like everyone says its a very easy swap. If you can change out a set of hub/bearings you can do this mod.

If a manual hub conversion gets done on a vehicle with control trac, will a brown wire mod or something similar need to be done as well?

I don't think so as the Control trac and the auto 4x4 use the ABS sensors to tell if the rear tires are slipping. please correct me if I am wrong

That is true, partially. The ABS uses the front wheel sensors to detect wheel spin, but the transfer case uses a speed sensor on the front output to sense the difference in front to rear wheel speed. The new front hubs for the ranger application have the ABS sensors in them so no problem there. So the BWM would take care of the t-case. The only problem you might have is a flashing 4wd light. Only an annoyance, not a problem.
