I'm assuming its as easy as purchasing the digital controls, buying a new radio/AC face plate and mounting them. It's simple as all hell to remove....I was trying to find the controls off of a mountaineer as well, but the prices were a little too steep for a cosmetic upgrade....

I looked into doing this mod about a year ago but, unfortunately it's not as easy as plug and play, the connectors are completely different

From the looks it maybe harder than anticipated. i'll have to find the connectors and where the wires lead to and disconnect and connect the new ones. thanks for pics and replies. I will give it a shot!

I will point out that in the digital version it has dual air, driver's and passenger's. A base 3rd gen with manual controls doesn't have that feature. (Friend of mine owns an '02 XLS)

Just pointing that out.

It would be interesting to see if you could do it though. Good luck.

cant be done with out changing alot of stuff, adding alot of stuff. digital has way more stuff, also heater box, and other stuff differs.

Yeah that stuff is important.

Looks like a project.
Yes we'd have to find what pin connects to what & split wires.
I will try 2 find a breakdown sheet for both the controlls & from there looks like we have to try 2 make some new connections.
If anyone can get the breakdown sheet for both controlls before I can fond them, please post.

The rotary system uses pressurized tubing to control AC functions....I don't see that on the digital system....this might be an expensive mod, and would probably cost far more than it's worth
