max shackle length?

so i just bought a '93 explorer limited for a fair price for a truck with 155,x.. miles. one of the first things i am doing to it is stuffing a set of 31's under it, to make the rubber fit a little better i am planing to do a budget 2" lift with f150 spacers and 4" over stock shackles. my first question, how is the u-joint at the pinion going to hold up with the new angle? and second, is any one willing to share a part number for the new camber bushing i am going to need?

My shackles are 2 inch lift and 12 inches long so 4 inch lift shackles if the calculations ive found are correct would be a 16 inch or so shackle which is more then scary long. 1 inch of shackle longer then stock = 1/2 inch lift. P.s. 31s will fit stock

There is no way to know what alignment bushing YOU will need, prior to it being on the alignment rack. Every vehicle is different.

So, what you want is these double adjustable Moog bushings.

They will give you a 0 - 4 degree range. If you need more then 4 degrees of adjustment, STOP, undo the stupid, excessive stuff you did to your truck. Or, have the twisted/bent frame fixed first.

i wouldnt suggest making shackles more than 3" longer than stock, 1. pushing the prinsg down that much changes the pressure and flattens them out faster. 2. long shackles make the springs way less stable, 3. those shackles will hang down a looong way and probably get snagged on a ton of stuff. the rear wheel wells will handle a 31" tire with no lift so even a 1-1.5" would clear up more than enough space for them. im building 1" lift shackles right now for mine which will make it very easy to fit 31's in back.

31s fit with stock height. If you want a lift, go with the F150 coil seats up front and some warrior shackles or add a leaf in the rear. Anything over 2 inches comes with tons of mods

carguy, thank you, that is exactly what i was looking for. something i could slam in there, get it eyeball close then drive it down to the fourby shop.

its not the rear wheel wells im worried about, it the front only because my stock bII fenders like to eat tires when to road get a little rough, and since the front coils are starting to sag enough to wear the inside of the tires i though i could kill two birds with a set of stocks from rockauto and spacers at the same time.

I dont suggest making them super long either but 4 inches is fine depending on metal thickness i aggree 100 percent it flattens the springs more but dont agree that its less stable my explorer handles the same.

and i dont like how the warrior shackles look since i can weld up a set of 1/2" boxed I-beam shackles at the shop for pennies

Yes, It matter. There are many different styles. Some are taller than others, some have a shock mount on them etc..

I don't have a pic of the correct version handy, but it's on here... somewhere.

Edit: I did a quick search for F2TZ-5A307-A (one of the sides) and it came back with 1989-1992 f-150 2wd. Hopefully that helps.
