May be able t get a good deal on some subs and a box, should I go for it?

Ok, a friend of mine, for some reason, is wanting to sell his 2 Audiobahn 12"s and the box, for only $200. I am gonna ask him if I can hear it, and maybe take it out of his truck and hook it up to my amp to see how it sounds,(I doubt it will sound as good as his amp, he has a 1,000 watt Lanzar amp powering the things)but anyways, I wanted to ask if these subs are good? Also, would I be better off getting a different amp instead of my little mtx 400 watter?

If you are going to run those 12's then you will need a more powerful amp. But those subs are loud and can handle alot of power. These are very good subs and the lowest model can handle 1000 watts. I dont know if you are looking for this much bass or not but it is deifnitly a good deal.

I agree it's a good deal if a)they are still in good condition and b)you want that much bass. Audiobahn subs take a crazy amount of power. You would need something like 2 Rockford Fosgate 800a2's to get the most of the subs. With that much power I doubt you would even be able to tell you actually had component's hooked up. I would rethink it. Sure its a good deal for the subs but think of what you would have to pay for an amp to run those monsters. I would go with 2 JL Audio W3's (12"=$155 each at http://www.tmselectronics.com )Or even 2 MTX Thunder 6000's (12"=$95 each at http://www.tmselectronics.com )

Yeah, I've been thinking about if over the da, and I guess I agree that it is probably way too much for me, although, I am going to check out that web page you directed me to, only $95 for each thunder6000 12", when I bought my thunder600010" for around $130 from the local shop. That sucks. Anyways, just checked it out,a nd was looking at the JL 10W6, would that sound a lot better than my thunder6000? I want something that hits harder, but would I need to get a bigger amp? I mean, can a sub really make all that much difference in how good it sounds, cause I have the 6000, but would I be really happy if I got a much better 10" sub? Also, if I did go with 2 12"s, would I be better off getting some 8ohm models, and wiring them in parallel t go to a 4ohm load? And would 2 12"s sound a whole lot better than the 1 10" even with the same amp?

Ok, this doesn't have to do with these subs and stuff, but I think you guys may know this, and I didn't want to post another topic. I am thinking of making a storage box for the rear to keep some of the stuff I have sitting on the ground somewhere else so it doesn't slide around, and it will look better. Anywas, here's my plan. I am going t make one big front piece that goes all the way across the rear, and it will go over the humps back there. It will be just as tall as the back seat, maybe an inch or 2 below it. Then the back will basically be the same thing. Then, since I can't make wood bend around the hump, I will just make little sections on the sides for little things, like my portable cd player and headphones for work. And maybe tow straps on the other side. But, I am unsure of how to make these corners stay up, like speaker boxes, do the companies use screws, or do they use some sort of special glue that holds it very good? I am going to use MDF, maybe some plywood, depends on the prices. But, how would I keep that "shelf" that goes over the humps, and all the bottom pieces, and back and front pieces stay up and strong? Here are some other things I am going to do to it, in case anyone wants t know. I am going to make the top a hinged lid, with a lock in the middle, and cover the front, top and some of the sides with some tan vinyl. I was going to cut a big rectangular opening in the front and mount one of those large flush mounted q-logic amp racks to holdmy Fosgate 600a4, and my MTX RT220x amp, and a fan or so inside to keep them cool. But I figured that I would like to keep the amps somehwere out of the way, and if I did this, I would have to unhook, hook them up if I needed to take out the storage box, and I would have to extend all of my cables to fit back there, which would be a complete mess, so that one is out of the idea now, which sucks, cause that would have lokked awesome, and it would of been a nice custom touch. But I hope this thing goes as planned, maybe I will start making the panels this weekend because we are out of school thurs. and fri. so, I am going to also be trying to fix my bumpers (bodylift) and make the front straight, and the rear up, it is still hanging down there. But I am just wondering how t keep these pieces of wood @ 90 degree angles, and as strong as possible, oh just thoguth of this, maybe some little L-shaped steel brackets to hold these shelves and the box up? Could be a mess like that thoguh, please help me out with this if you can, thanks.

A good sub adds a lot to the sound and makes it sound alot better. I think you would might be happier but it depends on how you want it to sound. As for the 8 ohm subs it depends on the amp you are running it with, and I dont know of too many car audio subs that are 8 ohms, the most I have seen is 6 which is the W6 and the rest usually come as 4 but can be wired into 2 ohms. There are also ways to get a 4 ohm load from just two subs too, I am not sure how but I think it can be done.

I know MTX offers their subs in 8ohms. As for the W6's they are only 6ohm meaning that you really need to bridge 3 subs together to get a 4ohm load.

Anyone know how t make that storage comp. I was talking about? I noticed a pic of the inside of a box, and there is just a piece of wood, then another piece of wood, how in the world does it stay so sturdy? If I use screws, wouldn't it split the wood? Or would I drill into the wood w/ a size or 2 less than the screw size, then put the screw in? Thanks as for wiring them in paralell, what is the deal with that, I mean, how do you know what the ohms are gonna be after wired?
