Lexus man just wants to start up again cause he's still jealous that he hasn't been able to actually "hear" his Lexus at full throttle and knows deep down in his heart he shoulda got a Duractec Taurus to hear that roar;) :p

:D I was amazed riding in my friend's V-6 Honda about how quiet his engine is. He's really upset at Honda for making it so quiet. You can really hear the Vulcan Taurus when it revs up :)

LOL, I don't need to hear my engine, I know its there ;)

actually the Lexus V8 does have a sound at full throttle, its kind of like hearing an engine from inside a very thick walled house.

You know I'm just picking on ya though ;)

That Duratec line of engines is going to be Ford's saving grace in the car market. The 6's 2.3 Liter Duratec I-4 (Yes it's based on the Ranger) is supposedly one of the most high-tech engiens available, and has lots of room for modifications, just like its big V-6 brother

You kind of have it backwards--the 2.3 Ranger engine is from the Mazda I-4 engine line. It isn't related to the Duratec V-6. The Mazda-developed I-4's will be used globally in Ford products (probably including the next-gen Focus).

DOCH Duratec with 220hp @ 6300rpms, 192 lb-ft @5000
(basically the Ford Duratec engine but Mazda added new cylinder heads with continously variable intake-valve timing, swirl-inducing vanes cast in the intake runners, and 10:1 compression ratio (on regular unleaded).
0-60 - 6.8, 1/4 - 15.4 @ 93mph

I love this quote:
"Twist the key and blip the throttle to transform a quiet idle into a feral snarl. Under way with the hammer down, there's 76dBA of baritone roar, the timbre of which suggests it originates in Yankee cubes rather then high-tec cams":bounce: :D

I agree as the duratec in the Taurus is always called the most sports car sounding V6 in it's class and has a mean snarl when you floor it.

What month of car and driver is that from?

December 02', the front cover has the Nissan 350z, Audi TT, Honda S2000, and Mustang Mach 1 on it. They compared those also in a test and the Mach 1 got 2nd like one point behind the 350Z on the track which was damn good considering thats not what it was made for.

Hehe, this is what they had to say about the S2000, I got a kick outta this:
"With the DOHC 16-valve 2.0-liter beehive turning 4500 to 5000rpm on the highway, and the S2000 becomes a fuel-injected prescription for Advil.

It was still only .5mph faster then the live axle rip, snorting Mach 1 around the track.

They also said this for their "Lows Rating" - 'a nest of hornets under the hood with not enough sting LOL.

I thought both of them use the Cosworth casting process and were thus related since they are both Duratecs.

Motor Trend has a great article this month (FEB iI think) comparing the Altima, 6 and the VW Jetta GLI. Mazda came in first.

Not sure about the casting process, but sounds like you might be. In that case, they might have that relation.

Is it just me or does that 6 look like an Aussie Ford Falcon? Still a very nice car. I just wish Ford would bring the Falcons to the states.

The mazda 6 is a great car, if they added another 20-30 hp it would probably make a lot of peoples top choices over some of those nissan ones with 250-280hp

Yeah def!
If it had like 20 more HP my heart would be set!
IM going to go test drive one this weekend. I got an invite from Mazda.

looks great man but keep the gay ricer tips off and the body ground effects and you got it made ohh and the wing

It comes stock with an Aero Kit, its looks nice but not ricey.

OK, so im back from the test drive. It is really a well built car. You can see they put a lot of effort into it. The interior is very nice. Not cheap looking and plasticy. The radio controls are easy to get to and the radio display is paired up with the external temp., Time and auto climate control display. The Dash and controls light up a nice red, similar to that of the German cars (Audi and VW). Everything was clear and easy to read. The 6s comes stock with steering wheel controls for the radio (maybe temp), they felt rigid and sturdy. The seats were surprisingly comfortable and supportive. The 8 way adjustable seats along with the tilt and telescopic steering made the process of comfort easy.

The engine and suspension:
Very nice! Engine had a nice rumble to it. The Power band was smooth and even the entire way. Pickup was def not up to Altima 3.5 standards but still very good. Off the line could have been better if I had less people with me (salesman in the back and friend in the front) Otherwise it pulled very well considering. I was actually surprised at how the 6 'picked up and went' when passing from 60 - 90, took me no time to get up there. Steering was tight and precise, felt the road (which I like in a sports sedan with 17 inch wheels) with a nice smoothness to it. I was taking entrance ramps to the parkways at 60 and it grabbed a line and held it unbelievably with Minimal body roll. It was practically begging me to push it harder. As a matter of fact, the Salesman was egging me on to push it harder... lol

Overall, if this car had about 20 more horses under the hood it would definitely steal many Altima customers, especially at the price they were telling me. they were offering a 48 month lease with taxes down for $369 a month. APR was at 4.9% - 5.9%, so you do the math for a sticker price at 23,000. You are really get a lot of car for 23,000, I think its a great buy especially with the 4 year 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

It doesnt have leather or a moonroof for 23k does it? I think I built one for like 25k and that was loaded. Altimas arent quite that much anymore, they were big when they came out, but I don't seem to like them that much, i love the exterior on the mazda 6 much more. Did u test drive the auto? I would get stick if I ended up getting that car.

impressed

I haven't test drove one yet but.. I woke up this morning to one of the commercials and the car struck me as so attractive that I drove to the dealership as soon as I could today. I was very impressed with the car overall, the interoir was larger than my mountys in the rear, the front.. about the same.. the cars appearance is sporty, yet not ricey, the price is alittle high for me but.. I'm gonna keep researching them..
