2002 Mercury Mountaineer
We have a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, V6 with a recently rebuilt trans from Aamco. We tow a Popup camper about 3500+ lbs. We didn't have any problems towing last year to Ashville, NC through all the mountains, but when we had tranny problems in December we had it rebuilt.

In june we took it to Mts of NC and on our way back the OD light started flashing and within a short time...we pulled over and tried to call Aamco ...Sunday, forget it.

Anyway it started smoking a short time after we got back on the highway, so we stopped and got AAA towed home.

Aamco checked it out the next day and check it out and said there was nothing wrong with it. It was fine. Why did it smoke? He said it got hot. "But we put a towing package on the new rebuilt tranny..remember?" "I don't know, but it checks out fine now."

It does hesitate when I start it and put it in reverse...it needs to warm up several seconds before it'll go in reverse.

What gives???

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed, and moved your thread to the transmission section. Did AAMCO pull the codes for the flashing overdrive light? Did you check the fluid level to see if low fluid is causing the delay?
