MFT - Dual Zone Heat A/C not working on drivers side

My dual zone, driver’s side heat and a/c aren’t working. This just started yesterday. I noticed it when the windshield was foggy on the left side, but the right was completely clear. After playing with it a bit I noticed the heat and a/c weren’t working, it just blows out air. The fan speed works fine. I haven’t checked the rear yet, but I’m guessing that isn’t affected. The passenger side works normally.

I rebooted the MFT system last night by disconnecting the battery cable, but it didn’t have any affect. I’m guessing there is a control unit that has gone bad somewhere. I’ve done a search and only have found one other person that had this problem.

Please send me any information you have. Of course, my warranty just expired, 36,700 miles, so I’m hoping this doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg.

On some vehicles, there was a problem with the 'blender' device that controls the flow of warm or cooled air. You might be experiencing this issue. A visit to the dealer would confirm that.

2011 Explorer, 5th Generation w/dual air - No heat in front

Joe, My 2011 has just started doing similar things (heat in rear but not in front). Both hoses into the heater core are hot as is the discharge hose to the rear. However, the discharge hose to the front is barely warm. Do you know if the blending valves are controlled by vacuum or are electric? Did you solve your heat problem and what was the fix?

The issue some members were experiencing as VinceL indicated was with a blend door. That may possibly be your problem. Check out the following TSB

Hi Peter,
I'm only getting air from the dash vents regardless of which i choose. Nothing coming our of the windshield or floor vents. Rear vents are ok though.
Would the TSB above also be the issue for me?

It may but it's difeicult to say for sure without having it checked out. It sure seems like an issue with the blend doors not functioning.
Some owners have done the work themselves when fixing the actuators.
The following thread has pictures in the first few posts that might help.

I wouldn’t be able to fix or even diagnose it myself but I do have a friend that can. My main questions are:
Do you think the issue could be the motor that open/closes the blend doors in order to move air to the respective zones being dead/inoperative or could it be something electrical or computer related, ie the computer isn’t sending the signals for the doors to move.

Blend door actuators control the temperature, Mode door actuators control where the air comes out vent, floor, and defrost that actuator is up high above the gas pedal and kind of a PITA to replace.
