Ordered my Explorer last month and elected not to get voice activated navigation ($800) added.

MFT has navigation, so is the voice activation the only difference? I can't seem to find it being worth the extra $800 for the V/A.

SYNC uses your phone to download maps to Ex.
Nav has maps, POI's,etc. built in. Just like using your garmin.
MFT gives you bigger screen, Sony radio, etc.
Check out dif. here. http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/packages/
I have MFT with Nav and love it.

Hi, 2013exploder!

It all depends on personal preference. Check out the link GWA1 posted for more info, but also know that you cannot add the built-in NAV after your Explorer leaves the factory. You will have our turn-by-turn voice-activated directions free for three years when you purchase MyFord Touch. So again, it's really up to you on whether or not you prefer to have a map on the screen, or the directions by voice.

This caught my attention.

What happens after 3 years?

If you want to continue using sync services you must pay for them.. you get a 3 year subscription when you purchase the vehicle

I can see how this would apply to Sirius or traffic alerts, but I assumed that basic usage of the navigation unit is not considered a subscription service.
Am I wrong?

If you didn't order the car w/ the voice activated navigation, you don't have a navigation unit. You would be using sync services for navigation. If you ordered it with voice activated nav, the 3 years doesn't apply to you.

Unless you live here (Canada) where it isn't available. :thumbdwn::(

If and when it does become available, I think all current Canadian owners should get a free 3 year subscription. :)

Thanks, that makes more sense.

Hey, malcolmtucker and 13Sport!

Just to clarify, NAV or not, all MFT-equipped vehicles (in the U.S.) receive the free three year subscription to SYNC Services. :)

(Sorry, Peter! :( )

I will have SYNC with MFT. It reads:

Turn-by-turn directions
(with SYNC® Services27,129)

Get voice directions read over your audio system speakers.

Do I have to have NAV on my phone or are these maps, directions, ect included in the SYNC? The way I understand is that the maps come with the SYNC with driving directions, evt...they just give directions...without the voice.

If this is correct, I'm fine with all of it. I already have my wife chirping in my ear, I don't need another voice telling me where to go...lol!!

You are confusing two completely different things.

Sync services is a service where you get turn-by-turn directions by voice only (I think maybe it shows the next turn on the green right screen as well)... There are no maps on the main screen.

MFT w/ NAV has a full GPS navigation system with turn-by-turn directions built into it. You get full maps, voice guidance, turn-by-turn, even traffic, weather, etc if you add sirius travellink.

With Sync services you have to be connected with your cell phone, with MFT w/ NAV everything that is needed for guidance is built in (w/ the maps and poi's being on an SD card)

There are NO maps with sync services, just voice guidance (and next turn indicator on the right guage screen.)

I have it on my 2010 Mustang and don't care for it ....... MFT is much better with the map display IMHO :salute:

Damn, I bought wrong NAv system then. I'll put it on the dealship for not knowing what the hell they are talking about!!

Looks like i'll be getting the IPhone5 and use it then.

Could always check with the dealer and see if it's to late to add it? Worth a call!

If your car doesn't have a VIN assigned yet, you can still add the option. Call the dealer quickly though! :)

Did you contact your dealer to see if you could add NAV?
