i drove my buddy's 98 sport this weekend. he has 30x9.50 mickey thompson mtx tires. here's my question. are they supposed to ride so rough? it was as if i could feel every knob hitting the ground. and they were sooo much louder than my at ko's of the same size. are these mud tires or a/t? he thought there was possibly something wrong with his truck with the noise level and the harshness of the ride. i felt that it was just the tires.

That's a good question.

That's strange, i thought the radial from MT was supposed to ride well and rather quiet. That is interesting. Maybe someone has those tires and has a good explaination for that. I wonder if they ride better or worse than the baja belted HP's. I was considering both for my next set of tires.

the MTX are designed as mud terrain baja tire. I have no experience with them, but I do have exprience with the Baja Belted HP tires, and they seem to ride pretty smooth, and do well off-road as well.

How much air pressure was being run. Anything over 26 and you will feel every little bump on the road. :)

Hey Matt?

Matt

When you say smooth, how does that compare with a radial tire. I've heard that the HP's have a very soft rubber compound that wears quickly. What is your take on that?

there are many "radial tires", some of which are mud's and some of which are all terrains, so its tough to say "its smoother then a radial" because radials ary so much. I have put almost 20,000 miles on mine, I can tell that they have worn but they still have plenty of tread on them... they HP's are pretty soft rubber though, squishy enough that you can apply thumb pressure and push in the rubber a bit.
